Is it me, or have you noticed the moderators getting a bit frisky lately?

The last 2 warnings I've received were "EDUCATIONAL", which to me means the content was a little bit risqué or racey.

Nothing aggressive or terrible (imo ofc), just a few lesser swear words or a funny pic, and in several cases, the whole post was deleted, not just "edited".

Is this kind of (over-zealous) moderation what we want?... I'm interested to know. I'm active on the forums because I like chatting with the members here, and we can have a laugh as well as talk about serious things in the game. I'm also fairly helpful to newer players and will happily give any advice seriously where asked for.

I appreciate that this is WG's forum, so democracy doesn't exist, but surely its actual purpose is to provide a platform for discussion and community enhancement. If this is a trend, would it be a good idea to have a section of the forum section for 18+, so we can stretch the rules just a little bit, and make it a fun place?

I'm not saying have a free-for-all, completely unmoderated section where members can spout racist comments and post porn links, but I'd like to be able to have a harmless chuckle with other members without thinking "hmmm, I wonder if this will get me permabanned"

Let's see how long this topic lasts

They have a ModBot now which automatically gets you warned for using certain words.

Without a laugh now and again looking at these forums would be a chore and all would be devoid of personality.........boring.

I know they have an automated swear filter now, I've seen plenty of new posts that have loads of ***** in them, far quicker than a mod could have jumped on it.

If they just had a uniform line, they would follow..... But often you see compalints for wanings, that only some people get, while others get nothing for the same behavior.

Re: the 18+ forum. How old do you have to be, to play according to EULA?

lavaboy, same here. I got 2 educational warnings lately, one was for actually telling some other player to NOT sweat.. I was like.. WTF?! I got a warning for obeying the rules? And the funny part is, that I think moderators(not community coordinators), moderators, work like, only a couple of days a week. By this, I mean, somedays you will see horrible whine topic ful of swear words, that will be left alone, except when iScending(you rock man) comes and clsoes the whines down :) But I mean, maybe one, or 2 days a week, you will see every single word getting moderated in a second.. I mean, its weird Oo

One of the funniest mod actions is where they close a thread "to prevent excessive reports" even though it doesn't necessarily break any rules.

The moderation is so arbitrary, and devoid of common sense at times that it really isn't worth getting upset about - if someone posts an inappropriate comment and you quote the post in order to offer a rebuttal, or qualify a disagreement, you can get RO'd or warning points which is kinda odd to me at least.

Well on the WOTlabs forums , I'm a moderator , I think that speaks volumes
Maybe it's not the swearing/troll posts that should be moderated , but the general bad posts , like OMG MM is HAXs , Ban Siemas and the hundreds of  other useless topics that act as troll bait
.
Get rid of the troll bait and there's no trolls , don't punish the trolls , treat the cause

Educational warnings are just a nudge to remind you about the rules (which include not swearing) nothing more. Better that than actual points and bans for relatively minor issues.

If i made a topic about some of the warnings i got, id get at least 1 or more additional ones, like 25 seconds after i clicked "post topic".

Some of the moderators are, well, "specific", is that the right word? But they do work for WG and they can slap you with warnings, so we have to deal with it :(

Btw one of them will prolly contact you with "dont discuss moderator's actions bla bla bla" very soon.

Well last week I was all set to PM Ectar to have my old points removed but then I got an 'educational' warning.......so now I'll have to wait two months before I can ask to have any of them removed. If I had PM'ed the week before they'd have been removed......silly set up to have them removed.
What I need is a Tardis.......or a moderator with a sense of humour, both are hard to come by.

I still got 2 warningpoints - From December 2011 and January 2012..... One without reason, and another for personal attack, where i told someone to stay out of forum, if he did not like comments to his threads - No name calling or swearing :/

I think it is the usual stuff, where a new Moderator is hired in, and he/she has to prove themselves, and need to execise power. Well - I do not really care for warnings, other than the problem is, that sometimes threads are being closed, moved or deleted for very weak reasons.

Well honestly, I am serious leaving everything on iScending. The guy is probably the best person in WG EU, right besides The Challenger. Sorry Ectar :hiding:
