Hello All,

I started with German tanks in this game.

I have Luchs Leopard in the garage now but looking at the next ones is there even a point from the playability perspective?

I also have T71 and ELC AMX, AMX 12 t, all the way up to the 13 90.

Is there any point for anyone driving light tanks to even go for the 28 and Auf Panther?

From what I see in game is that they are not competitive.

Is there something that I am missing ?

Well... VK28 is a rather good scout, but I'd say that American and Chinese ones are most likely better.
Awful Panther is just bad, its pretty much a fast medium with bad matchmaking and HP.
I play it only because I'm waiting for RU251 to come. Frankly I don't know if it will be any good, but at least I have hope.

They suck and there is nothing else to say.
T71, AMX 13 90 and WZ-132 are the best light tanks in the game, play them!

Light tanks are good if they are driven by skillfull player not me ofcourse. Light tanks are nice if ya want speed and like to troll heavier enemis. 38nA is handsdown the worst light i have ever seen and ya have to get trough it to reach tanks you like, pz3A is also quite bad. Leopard PTA and some other hightier lights are good tanks depending map and team. If ya want challenge and something new, take German Lights. Most people choose Chinese and french lights because they are good but that doesnot mean German tanks are not as good. it depens what tank you drive and how.

I personally hate light tanks except Loltraktor.

I think WG should rethink some hull choices (Panther just doesn't make sense for example) and redefine lights around fast firing autoloaders and short derps.

This way you would have agile little buggers able to deliver some burst damage and annoy bigger tanks (or artillery), specializing in stealth and brawling.

AufPanther is not exactly a poor tank, it's just very mediocre. You still can scout with it, but the tank is a lot more unforgiving than VK28 or VK16 and it takes skill and knowledge of the maps to drive it successfully.

It's a fantastic rammer though!

Luch is only german light i can recomend . It got fantastic gun for its tier (good burst + pen). Meaning even if u land in highest, 8tier match, u can penetrate sides and rear of most heavily armored tanks. Its also smallest of german light tanks with scout mm. If u gonna play german scouts stop with Luch. Everything else = crap level.

Ok thank you all for feedback looks like I am going to stop at the Luchs & Leopard.
There is no point for me to invest time in inferior tanks when I have T71 and the whole french line up up to 13 90 to choose from.

Well, from the light you can go to the Leopart Pta and Leopard 1, which are kind of hybrid between light and medium. But I find now the medium more enjoyable than the light in this line (VK 30 02).
I loved the VK 2801, and you can still perform well in it, Taz in the living proof, but let's face it, this tank was slaughtered patch after patch, it's now only a shadow of what it was, and for me it's too painfull to keep playing it. I had more than 2K games in the 2801. (no near than Taz, but just to show how much I loved it)
And in performance, for the almost same matchmaking, the WZ 131 is better in every aspect and can hurt any tank in the game in addtion of being a great scout. And it lead to the WZ 132 which is IMO the best light tank in the game. (I sold my 1390 because I wasn't playing it anymore for the WZ 132)
I know the 131 is T7 and the VK a T6, but I don't think it's even usefull to talk about this things in T7 who follow the 2801..

For the Leopard PTA and Leopard X I went through the medium line now at iPanzer so really there is no point for me to Continue up that tree.

Luchs was fun at tier 3 that is why I still have it I loved it there. No it is still fun tank but with brutal MM considering the HP you have.
I unlocked and bought the tier V Leopard just to see what it is about but while it is not exactly horrible tank. I do feel the ELC AMX is better.

From what I have seen in this thread and also on the battlefield there is really no Purpose to go past the Luchs in the german light tank tree.

French is fun from tier 5 same is the T71 will go up the Chinese light tree as well. I will unlock the VK 28 before I sell the Leo though.

Purely for scouting and Artillery killing I actually prefer the Pz38nA over the Luchs.

2801 used to be awesome, but those times are long gone. Now the T71 is my king of scouts. I miss those days, when T-50-2, Chaffee and 2801 equally ruled the throne of scouts.

No point whatsoever at the moment in my opinion. VK 16.02 Leopard is just painful in my opinion. A long and painful grind. A completely obsolete and awful tank by any measure - and I played it when there were five SPGs in every game, and WoT playerbase only consisted of 96 % monkeys (99 % currently), so at least few players understood spotting mechanics.

Does the grind pay off then? Frankly, it doesn't. VK 28.01 became overpowered after premium ammo was introduced for credits, and everyone was spamming 105mm HEAT left and right. You could get some magnificent results with the tank. Then the 105mm HEAT was rightfully nerfed and the VK became a balanced vehicle. Then the VK was nerfed by giving it worse hp/ton ratio. Then it was nerfed again.

I suppose you can make it work, but mine has been gathering rust in the garage for a good while. I really see no point in playing it.

After the VK 28.01 comes the AwfulPanther, which I haven't played. I believe that it's one of the worst vehicles in the game though.

The only reason I would play the German light line is the upcoming RU251, which may or may not be a good tank.

.
Didn't HEAT nerfs take place after the VK28 was moved to T6? VK28 was moved to T6 in 8.4 and 105mm heat was nerfed in 8.6, I'm pretty sure the former is what killed the VK28 for most people.

Simple answer NO.

German scouts are bad.
Vk 28.01 was good but nerf bat hit it hard.
AufPanter is a WG joke.
Bad joke.

I know, what you mean. Sometimes I just play it for fun, go up a hill and wait for something thats lighter than me. You can one shot a 13-75 or T71 like that. lol

But when your in a tier 10 only game where every single tank is heavier than you, with more view range its no fun.

The Cromwell is better at being a light tank than this monstrosity.
