The Matilda IV is a good tank for tier 5 is has good armor ( 75/70/55 hull ) ( 75/75/75 ) turret armor it has great hit points for a tier 5 tank
( 660 hp ) its not very fast for a med tank top speed of 25 kph ( you would be lucky to reach that speed ) but none of these are the problem with this tank. The problem with the Matilda IV is its gun its horrible it cant penetrate and enemy's armor unless the enemy is driving a lower tier tank. The gun on the Matilda IV is the 76mm ZiS-96  its penetration is unreal bad for a tier 5 its penetration is
( 86/102/38 ) stranded shell penetration is ( 65-108 ) and premium ammo is no better this gun ruins this tank and i understand why no one really buys the Matilda IV its just useless against any tank that is tier 5 or higher. I can deal with been slow but I at least expect that when i final crawl may way across the battle field and run into an enemy tank the same tier as the Matilda i should be able to put rounds into the enemy and be able to defend myself against tanks of the same tier but that is not possible with this tank its far to slow to maneuver the tank and even if you did the gun can not penetrate the enemy's armor even with gold rounds. I got behind a KV-1 and shot him with 20 gold rounds in his rear armor ever round bounced of him WTF!!!

The Matilda IV needs a buff its gun needs to be changed for the 76mm ZiS-96 to the 76 mm S-54 at least this way you can penetrate the enemy and defend your self

No, the tank is fine. You need to learn how to play it properly. I trained 4 times medium crews (2 time from 75% and 2  time from 90%) with it and is an excellent tank. With a good crew you can own with matilda IV in tier 5 fights. In tier 6 fights you need to be very carefull. If it would have had a better gun (premium shells included) would be highly OP or she will need to have normal tier 5 medium spread (will face tier 7 tanks)
Use that big HP, insane gun depression, learn to sidescrape, learn to prioritize the targets (first low hp targets, second easy penetrable targets, the last tanks with thick armour). Against tanks with thick armour, if you are 1 vs 1 always try to get the fight close and shot at weakspots. Ideal would be to keep them detracked in this time :P

You can penetrate KV-1 frontally if you shoot radar-view hatches with normal ammo (he must not be angled!).
i see it as perfect tank for learning where to shoot...on close range...accuracy is main problem with matilda IV imo.

Well then, I have good news for you, try to use the British Matilda, it has 121mm penetration value and same armor. Granted, it is even slower, but one Tier lower and available for ingame silver.  This has to make that Tier 4 Matilda the best tank in the game. Increase of 35mm penetration value, wow much op, so evil, no kills.

But listen buddy, it does get even better: U can have a Tier 5 Matilda with better gun (110mm pen) same armor, same matchmaking and an ugly turret. It is called Matilda Black Prince. wow much op, so evil, many kills.

But hey, u have driven all of them with best stats in that Matilda IV. Here is the queston: WHEN did u drive it and what kind of shells were u using?

Could someone watch my replay and tell me what I did right and what I did wrong? I really like my Matilda IV, but I feel that I can do so much better in it.

Someone seems to be forgetting the matilda4 has nearly twice the hp of the matilda1...  (and preferential mm)

I bought it last night, and I got 2 games in it already, just in order to train a new medium crew. First game I was top tier and got five kills and a second class award and second game I tier 6 opponents and crashed and burned horribly!

First impression was that it is a slow medium, but can hold its own in a good team with good deployment and covering tactics. The rate of fire is a plus, giving the opportunity to spam covering shots for your team to advance in the map.

I had however an encounter with a KV-1 in the first game which I did really well and yes, it was a disaster. Luckily it took like three shots to understand that I had no luck with the big and heavy, so I just went the other way!

I think it’s a good tank to train crews and I am looking forward to more games with it.

Yes you need to avoid the heavies, try not to go 1 on 1, against anything else you should do well in the mk4

I couldnt pen kv1 side from 30m,i shot 4 times x2 ap and x2 apcr. All shots dinged the kvs side,no angle at all.I rly dont know how t counter heavy tanks since y cant flank them and hitting weakspots(like at2 cupola) doesnt work.

The tank is not fun to play as it requires to aim at weakspots but apart from the bad gun the tank is pretty decent.

Well i played few games with it and parralell grind british heavy line. So I had matilda4 and regular matilda. Basically they are same tank but british matilda was waaaay better suited for my gameplay than prem matilda.

Cannon on prem matilda was frustrating to say at least, and on british matilda gun declination was way worse than prem one.

As for both they are so much resistant to arty, and in same mm tier they are feared....especially when opponent figures that you have less than 2 sec reload :)
