stopit's Photo stopit 19 Apr 2011

when useing my arty i find when moving over targets they seam to vanish untill i move away, this happens to both frend and enemy, its not a radio problem as they reapear as soon as i move my cross-hairs away from the target,i think other ppls are having this problem too,any one got any ideas?  thanks stopit

I can confirm this, even wrecks disappear. This usually happens when moving long distances by using the minimap to move the crosshair.

My guess is it's hardware related as I play on a low-end computer. Can you post your specs stopit? The weird thing is, only tanks disappear but the terrain loads and shows normally.

It might also be a bug in the game engine, but it's more likely it is a hardware issue.

As mentioned to you in the ingame chat allready, i cant reproduce it with Wespe / Grille. Only with the 300m Radio on the Wespe i discovered such effects.

Are you even reading what I'm writing? I know how radios work. I've played with artillery since the soft wipe and this happens with all tiers, with all modules and at all ranges. The radio range also doesn't explain the disappearing wrecks. Just to make sure you understand, I'll explain everything as precisely as possible.

1. I'm helping friendlies by providing arty support in some part of the map (let's call this area X). I see red dots on the map in an area where there are other friendlies (let's call this area Y) and they are saying there is a heavy tank there. I decide to switch my target there. And, because I can see them on the minimap, they are obviously in my radio range.
2. I right-click on the minimap to the grid I want my cross-hair to move. Immediately after I've done that and my camera is on top of the area I want to be on, all the dots, both greens and reds, disappear from the minimap (around area Y, area X is still normal). I also can't see any tanks in my view. After this, there are three options, one of which happens:

Option A: I wait around 10 seconds, after which the dots appear on the map again and I can see all the tanks in my view. I can happily start shooting again, but due to the lost 10 seconds, my aim might be at the wrong spot.

Option B: I get frustrated and right-click to my previous position (area X). Immediately after this the dots come back to the minimap in area Y.

Option C: This is the worst that might happen. I move my view back to position X and now all the dots and tanks disappear from that area and the dots in area Y become visible again.

Spyme, your explanation doesn't explain this:

So are you still claiming it's all about the radio?

I really, know what you mean and i understand the problem. The dissapearing of wrecks is the same as for any other. I got thoose "dissapering" thing too, but only on the Wespe with the FUG5. After i upgraded the radio, team members and enemys where all over the map and nothing hide when i strg+clicked it on the minimap.

Edit: Wrecks ever re- and disapeared in spg view, even the sounds, thats nothing new.

Because I am an extremely stubborn person, I still don't believe you. That's why I brought some pictures to prove that it's not about radio range.

First picture:

There I am, aiming at the town on Westfield. As you can see, everything is normal. My radio range limit goes approximately from the upper left corner to lower right corner of the map. I know that there are some friendlies at the southern edge of the map that drove through the village. I can't see them due to my poor radio. You can see a green dot (Grille) in A7 right next to me. I right-click on my own position and this happens:

All tanks north of the village disappear. By your logic Spyme, they all suddenly left my radio range while a tank that is further away in southern village can still be seen. As you can see, there is a 30 second difference between the picture so they might have moved away from my radio range. However, later in the match I could see our Stug in C1, which is even further away than it is in the second picture. So for some reason, his and my radio stopped transmitting for that brief moment I moved my aim.

As you can also see, the Grille that was standing right next to me (about 50m away from me) disappeared from the minimap and from my view. You can also see that I have disappeared too. Something wrong? No, I must have just lost radio contact with myself and with a Grille that is inside my own view range.

Your turn :)

Uhm, thanks for the screens, and now i understand i talk about a different (not the radio range) problem with mostly the same effects, that still exist. But what you have shown now is something new and strange to me. I even cant reproduce it with a Grille. I may have a very small idea why it maybe happens. I think such behavior can happen if you run out of memory and the os is starting to swap, because swapping is very slow, but thats only an idea. I guess i never experienced such behavior in the beta on any arty too.

Finaly, I have found a topic talking about the exact same problem I have.

I play on a low end computer:  cpu AMD Athon 64 3400+, gpu Ati Radeon 9600 pro, 2G ram. And I manage 10-15 fps with all graphic parameters trimed down (addtionaly, I use a no-smoke particles fix). That's for the setup.

Now, I've played all artillery down and including SU-8, Hummel and M41. Each time I had this exact problem as explained by Kalkalash. I surveil my minimap for red dots appearing; as soon as I train my aim on them, all red and green dot's around it desapear, along with the corresponding tanks, even the wrecks...
Then, if I move my view away, the dots reapears where I was looking a second ago, but I can't see anything where I am now looking.
Sometime, even the ground don't show and I see grey squares instead.
My first guess is I don't have enough processing power to display the entire map and my computer has to rerender what's going on on the screen each time I look somewhere else. Kinda like a clipping problem.
Finaly, If I am looking far away from my position, and I cancel top view to come back to my tank, my tank itself vanish and it take several seconds for it to come back. Even so, his entity is still there, because I can move it by using the top view refering to the aiming line.

Obviously, this is a HUGE pain in the rear for any arty player, as I can't possibly switch from a region of the map to an other without completly screwing my field of vision. The worst part is, because it take so long for my targets to render. And when they finaly show, it's the spoting system that kicks in and my target desapear again because the scouts are already dead...

I am seriously looking for an answer from the dev team, even just an explenation why it happening to me and some other players, because I can't properly play arty with that handicap.

Thanks in advance.

A little update, the new graphical option in the last patch (track effect off) allow me to gain some fps compared to before. Nothing changed with target problem... Any official statement? And what about the grey map issue?

It is indeed a slight lag when you're moving the SPG view reticle across the map. The reason is simple becouse the "server" is used to you looking down at one square, but as soon as you move it, the server must adjust to the new square grid on the map first, then you can see the tanks.

Slight? It blinds me for 20 seconds every time I move my sight  :(
And even updating my GPU driver did nothing. I want to know what and why this happens. Until then, I am more of a handicap then help to my team when I play arty.
The only way to play arty for me now is to choose a sector and stay focused on it. And too bad for the guys on the other side of the map who suddenly require arty support...

I believe I've partialy solved the problem on myself. I use Avast! anti-virus and I tried deactivating the Network Agent. Now my "target latency" has been reduced, but not entirely removed. Wich make me think it is a network related problem.

I can confirm this bug, in my SU-5 this happens as well...but i guess i'm lucky, the time until the tanks reappear is somewhere around 5 seconds.

Comp specs i'm playing WoT on: intel core i3-330M proc, intel hd graphics, 2gb ddr3, so kinda low end, but I manage 25-30 fps with all graphics set on low, smoke effects off and the scope shadow patch (from here: http://forum.worldof...__hl__explosion) and the setting from this topic: http://forum.worldof...674#entry572674

But this bug only happens for 2 days now, so i doubt the above are at fault.

Up, because this is a realy annoying issue, even removing multiple sfx and shader files does nothing improve my performance (if it is a rendering issue). I realy would like some official though on this matter, please.
