I'am a very excited and happy bunny as I have managed to convince the wife that it would be "educashunal" to take my two young boys to Bovington when we visit the area in August :great: And my lads are pretty chuffed too ! Have any of you guys been and are there any "must see" exhibits. Can you touch the tanks or will I be shot on site ?  I would like to get a pic of me in a tin hat sat on the back of the TOG. Also do they run the tanks outside most days or just on special occasions ?

Cheers!

I've been going there fo 42 years now, I also know quite a few people there, It's a great place to go and spend the day, as you wish to take a pic on a TOG then don't go on a Sat/Sun as It gets buisy, talk to the guys who work there and they may help you out

Lucky you, i'd love to go.

Nearest thing to me is Cosford Air Museum, which has some amazing planes. But there are also a great example of a Centurion Mk3 and a Leopard 1A5.

Better than nowt i suppose..:sceptic:

I was just checking out their website today.  They were advertising a Tiger day when they get the Tiger running but no doubt that will be hectic.  Only 1 county away from me - guess I'll take a play day away from work...

Its a  cracking day out mate, soooo many tenks. Nothing will prepare you for the size of the TOG!!!, its a long walk round.

Something else that is striking is how rubbish the allied tanks look next to the German gear...

Oh and basically you can touch all the tanks, there are no barriers round them, not allowed to climb on them though. When I was there, there was the a guide who let you get inside the WW1 British tank, must have been hell just driving around in it during training.

Went last year and we were lucky to have lovely weather too

There is a great campsite nearby and a couple of nice pubs with decent beer

Sounds great ! I sell German products today and to be honest nothing has changed. The british and italian products look like toys next to the German counterparts.

I watched that documentary on Tankies of WWII and the Cromwell crews said the biggest problems with the tank was the size inside and getting in and out of the things. That and meeting a Tiger.
