Can't say I've been top tier yet, mostly bottom, or bottom 3rd.

Either you've been platooning, which neutralizes your special MM (MM always picks the highest value among your platoon members), or you're misreading the team chart. Light tanks always appear underneath all the vehicles of other classes, and there are a lot of tier 4 mediums and TDs.

I got this tank on valentines day, it was less than £2, so why the heck not. Impressions:

- Good armour.

-Sh*t gun.

Basically run on prem ammo as its cheap as chips, and wouldn't be able to pen the skin on a rice pudding without it.

Can't say I've been top tier yet, mostly bottom, or bottom 3rd.

Needs a better gun!!!!!!

How? It's capped to tier 4 unless you failplatoon.

I bought it on Saturday and it's a nice tank. Slow but with an awesome traverse speed, decent-ish armour and a gun that needs a hefty dose of APCR to do anything.

It completed some of the LT missions for me as well which was rather handy.

Alright, Alright, so I misread the team list. Just given myself a decent telling off for posting rubbish. noob error......

I did have an interesting exchange of fire with an enemy Valentine II, I couldn't get around the back so had to just keep him pinned down till someone arrived with the ability to penetrate the beggar.

We each must have fired at least 35 AP shells at each other, with little or no effect. It was quite amusing really.

Not going to happen unfortunately, since the devs have taken a stance against limited MM tanks...
So I've heard; that is saddening. One can only hope they don't buff limited tanks and give them normal MM. But one thing bothers me at present: I haven't seen any official statement on that (beside the observation that new premiums don't have limited MM). Was there some news post or interview or something?

They made an official statement, but only on RU Q&A. If you didn't already, I advice every person I meet to follow the For The Record blog, where you can read translated articles and comments, plus leaks for new maps and tanks: http://ftr.wot-news.com

I get practically all my info from there.

And no, they won't alter existing premiums. They're allergic to that.

Love this thing, first game ace tanker, run it with 50/50 premium ap, just avoid artys and matilda's

I was watching a Jingles vid on it where him, QB and Circon(IIRC) were the last left in Valentine IIs vs a Matilda. They killed it in the end but it had bounced something like 3k damage.

I think the gun should be brought to match the 2pdr on British valentine. (The stock gun) But that is my only complaint. The Russian's APCR has simmer pen yo the Brit's AP

Don't count on that. WG is very allergic to changing gun penetration on premium tanks. Actually, I can't remember a single time they altered this stat, after premium tank went live.

The one time WG tried (buff pen on type-59 in exchange for some nerfs in other areas) they backed off, after massive whine of 59 owners.

What is possible and happend a few times - changes to accuracy, RoF, aimtime.

And Hetzers.

I actually like this tank. It needs a liberal dose of premium ammo as even the tumour on the top of an M3 Lee will bounce your standard AP, but I'm enjoying it.

You also gotta be carefull with Duck and even B2.

After one such duels against Duck tank, my ammo loadout went from liberal to ultra-liberal (now only 10 AP loaded)...

But that's what happens, when your teammates driving proper armoured hi-pen  tanks decide to derp and rely on valentine II to do the heavy lifting.

This leaves Valentine II as nothing but cheap (200gold) crew trainer for those rare occasions with x3/x5 dailies :amazed:

Just picked this one up, as I might grind the Russian lights at some point, and the Val II costs less than a pint of beer.  I rather like it - but then I like all the various Valentine variants, and never understood why they have a bad rep.

On the first outing my team lost but I did 600 damage and 2 kills (T-28 and Covenanter) using standard AP only, blocked 200 damage, got Master Gunner and generated 19K net credits, so all in all a pretty decent result.

I do have 30 APCR loaded just in case.

EDIT: 4 games in and 4 losses, but it continues to perform very well regardless.  In the latest I had the pleasure of being called a hacker by a Pz 38 na after I put 4 AP shots into his front lower glacis and killed him, and also blocked 3 of his own shots.  I haven't found any real need for APCR so far, so it continues to generate about 20K credits per game, even on losses, which is insane.

Well, I played a dozen or so games with this today, and I reckon that it's a cracking little tank.  One thing that is noticeable is that the speed and maneuverability of the Val II are both much better than on the standard Val; it's no speed demon but nor is it a slug.  Another is that the standard AP is fine for most targets, I've had to use very little APCR.  And also, unlike the Pz B2, it faces no impossible enemies.  It can easily pen the Matilda in the side or the AMX 40 in the top turret.

It also has great view range.  I'm running mine with vents, GLD and optics.

Having played some more with this, I'm now much less positive.  There are two problems with this tank: the Matilda and the Hetzer.  A lot of players have these as keepers so they turn up frequently and in numbers in Tier IV matches, and unfortunately the Val II has no very effective answer to either of them other than to sneak up and hit them in the side while they are distracted.

The Val does, however, consistently deliver about 20K net silver, so it's not all bad news.

Used this as a learning tank and it took me a long time to get mastery, however it didn't tank my winrate so much as learning in churchill III, excelsior, and t25.

For extra fun, at late-nights the special MM means you are often in 7v7s. Just hope more than one enemy isn't a matilda...

I'd also note that, if you intend to go up the Russian light line, the tier 7 and 8s have a slightly different crew layout - loader instead of radio operator. What you can do is also grab a t-127 and use both.

I've been playing this in 3 man platoons after I was kindly gifted the tank by our very own 'Fish Monger' Rusty Sprite. :great:

After 79 games I have quite a healthy 67% WR with it.

As people say, Matilda's are it's nemesis. I have a 100% gold loadout and even after shooting 20 shells one game I still made 5k profit.

One tank I killed replied "Valentine, you didn't need to use Gold on me".

I typed back, "Yes I did, it's all I've got loaded"!

He went pretty quiet after that. :teethhappy:

Anyway, great fun tank especially with 3 of you on TS. Just need to use better tactics to kill those Tilly's and NEVER trade shots front on at a distance.

For some reason I decided to grab it for myself last night, and well..Results like this http://wotreplays.com/site/3016358#stats do kind of speak for themselves surely.

As a side note that other Valentine driver was pretty good as well and I did make a point of letting him know I felt that way post game.

And yes I know this hasn't been posted in for a year, just figured I'd rather bump this with content than create a new thread on this tank :P

http://russian-tanks.com/matilda-valentine.php

Says there the Russians up gunned theirs to a 3 inch gun (76.2mm).

They could release another Valentine WITHOUT limited MM....
