Well they made an air-glider tank in 1942, that scores all sorts of awesome points for me anyway. Not to mention other pretty sweat gear like the Su-22 and Iconic AK-47 for example. Then there's the Vodka and the cool hats of course, though I guess technically those are just Russian in general.

If nothing else though, the Soviet Union had a lot of personality you could say. With all their big fancy military parades, sweet looking uniforms and badges/medals it's kinda hard not to be impressed regardless of what you think about the actual place.

I believe Vladimir Putin summed things up quite nicely when he said something along the lines of "Whoever doesn't miss the Soviet Union has no heart, but anyone who wants it back has no brains."

Of course, if we didn't have the ol' CCCP, there'd also be a terrible shortage of stereotypical Soviet villians in spy/action hero movies.  :D

Martin Cruz Smiths 'Arkady Renko' novels. Without the CCCP they would not exist.

They won the war in pretty efficient, but brutal, manner
IF it wasnt for their bravery, stoicism, and military might, we might have not been born today.
Efficient? Of course if using people literally as cannon fodder is efficient. Of course it was lucky for us finns that Stalin had executed almost all of his officers.

And as a finn, I might say that IF it wasn't for German's bravery, stoicism, and military might, I might have not been born today ;) But yeah, crazy dictators in both countries.

And come to think of it, there are a few additional good things I can say about the CCCP:

1. Free vacations! Some of my grandparents received extended, free vacations in the rolling, endless woods of Siberia. Of course, transportation there was free, in luxurious cattle-wagons.

2. A lucky few of them even got free real-estate. Unfortunately it was below ground level and rather confined.

3. The dear CCCP gave us the wonderful gift of communism, and we got stuck with it for 50 years.

Don't you just love them?

Sad but damn this post made me laugh! thx for sharin bro :-)

Please don't spread your misguided, misinformed political nonsense on a forum that has nothing to do with it whatsoever. That, and try to actually learn what communism *is* before you start running off at the mouth.

Nothing positive to say about the CCCP or Stalin.

But I am very grateful to the men that fought and died to push Hitler back. In the end, they are they reason my country got released, luckily not by the Soviets. That's why I am more interested in the Allied powers than in Germany, although their fighting skills are more romanticized of course, and their Jagdpanther is pornography :Smile_harp:

There is no good or bad in war. I only know many individual soldiers died partly for my freedom and I try not to forget that.

- USSR was one of main factors in defeat of Hitler and some 10 million Red Army soldiers gave their lives to help to free the world from nacism
- They've sent the first man to the space
- USSR had one of the best ice hockey teams in the world (22 world champions) :)

As has been hinted at here, the Russian sense of humour:

Q: How come Brezjnev could travel the world for more than ten years while Andropov, who stayed in Moscow, only lasted a month or so?

A: Bresjnev was a battery operated apparatchnik, whereas the Andropov-model used the regular wall outlet.
(comment on the reliability of the Moscow power grid)

The Chrustjevs had been to the DDR and were on the Berlin - Moscow Express when Mrs Chrustjev asked her husband if they were home yet. Premier Chrustjev stuck his hand out the window and replied, "No". Some hours later she asked again and her husband stuck his hand out the window and replied, "No". After yet another couple of hours, Mrs Chrustjev got impatient again. This time her husband took out a tissue and wiped his hand as he replied:

"Yes, Yefrosinka, I believe we are in Russia"

"Nikita Sergeyevich, how can you tell by sticking your hand out of a window!?!"

"The first two times of asking, my hand was kissed. This time my watch was stolen and hand spat at."

Petrov, Mikhailov, Charlamov, Maltsev, Jakusjev, Firsov, Ragulin, Konovalenko, Fetisov, Kasatonov, Krutov, Makarov, Larionov, Tretjak & co - the beauty of the game they played!
