I recently bought a carrera mountain bike for leisure riding and like most people i live in a area were there are loads of evil bike thieving scumbags about. and i worry about it getting stolen so i already got some chain locks but I happened to have old magma mountain bike that i have had for over 10 years.. The thing is almost unrideable as its transmission locks up as soon as you attempt to change gear due to rust and it wobbles if you go fast on it having tested this before doing what i did earlier today after work. So suffice to say it's a death trap... I put the bike in the back of my car and parked in the public car park in the town center. I then took it to a bike rack were there has been loads of bike thefts and hooked it up to the rack using a rubbish cable lock that thieves can cut using scissors given enough time let alone a bolt cutter. and then left it.. My aim is to ATLEAST hurt the bike thief as a lesson not to steal bikes and be scared from doing so in the future when ever he trys to make away at get away speed (bike can not go that fast due to rust). Or maybe even.. yep you got it : \ am i normal? or just plain evil and mad??

It's a great idea  Made me giggle a bit although today you get punished for hurting thieves. Because they are not dangerous enough and you hurt them on purpose which is dumb but it is how it is.

It's like putting needles on your car seat. There was a case that thief sat on it and he won a lawsuit. Yeah, really.

Friend of mine regularly loosens the headstock bolts on his bike when he locks it up in town, just enough so that first serious turning effort the bars fold in and over you go.

Unfortunately, he then locks it with two abus gold locks, so there's been a distinct lack of bike thief - bus wheels interface.

Why would he do that when he has a dilapidated van to chuck it in the back of?

Even if it is stolen it will be dumped shortly after, so flytipping, and might still serve to draw in thieves to the area.

If you vid them with enough resolution to be useful as evidence then the exercise has purpose, but that involves an element of risk/danger.

You should have wired the whole frame up to a 12 volt car battery first.

A 12volt battery is not going to hurt/harm human.

An ignition coil and oscillator are the way forward :)

you grab a spanner and put it across the terminals of a 12v car battery.....then come back and say that...
