I bet he got a lot of experience for destroying 22 tanks alone, not to mention the spotting damage! :)

The fact that he ended up Lieutenant-Colonel proves that he must've used a premium account too.

On a more srs note, nice read WG. I appreciate these short historical abstracts featured on the main page.

Nice article, and appreciate the links to the source material - thanks WG.

As for German based awards; do you mean apart from Otto Carius and the no longer awarded Johannes Boelters? But I suspect at 6k games you already knew that, you little tinker Ivalyo..... :glasses:

Are you referring to having an article about for example Carius or Boelter, or implementing additional German tanker based medals in the game?

So that's why there's no Witmann medal no more. You didnt want to have to write an article on him?

We had, but it was renamed and later removed.

Dont twist it, you know very well what he's referring to. Epic medals :French, USSR, USA, Brittain, Italy, Romania, Finland...no Germany.

Who cares what nation the tanker is from? A good tanker is a good tanker- full stop. Nation only matters if you want to briefly gloat in some national pride.

And it seems this is why they removed the german medal. To gloat in their national pride for being winners. Because while we view the game as a game and judge tankers by their achievements on the battlefield WG judge them by their nation. USSR and Allied=good, German=bad, no epic medal for ze germs no more.

Nope. They removed Wittman's medal because the German government told them to- look it up.

You are wrong and here's why:

They RENAMED the Wittman medal because of some thought up story about the german government. Than they REMOVED the Bölter medal because...they decided so.

Actually no, It's forbidden by law in germany to promote anything related to the german fascism regime during WW2. They take this 'promoting' very broad.

If the Bolter medal needs to be removed because of "Fear of German institutions" for being related to the fascism than the Carius medal has to be removed too. Bolter and Carius were the same - soldiers from Panzerwaffe - not political forces. They are both equally related to fascism.

But its not removed because its one of the most basic achievements and would be a major step to do so. An epic medal yet that is owned by less than 50% of the players is easy to get cancelled. And all that was ever explained for removing the Bolter medal was in some ASAP video "For better or worse we removed it."

Now SerB appears and says "We decided to remove Carrius medal because the players suggested it"

EDIT: Here's exactly how WG explained the removal of the Bolter medal back in 2012.

Hope you understand russian but for those who dont what he says is basically "We sadly removed the Bolter medal, but I dont know why. We now award the following medals....but not Bolter anymore"

Dear me can we ever have a discussion about medals without someone starting on about the SS-guy?  WG are forbidden by German law to have Medals or awards named after Nazis.  I'm kinda ok with that, to be honest.

And the "Bölter" medal seems still to be in people's records, it's not been censored out.  Presumably discontinued as they were being given away like sweets.  One kill more than a top gun is hardly epic.

Story told by Russian propaganda, lol. Nobody believes that story anyway. Like the stories about the IL2, the awesome Russian plane reporting having destroyed tank platoons not even on the battlefield :)

I think you'll be banned long before you receive it because you'll have to destroy 15 enemy tanks and 7 of your own....if you even get that far before going all bluey and being kicked

Censoring it would have started a s**t storm.

And about the second, why didnt they make other epic medal named after German tanker than? Need I remind you that this was back in 2012 - patch 8.0 or sth and many of the medals that are in the game now, didnt exist back then. Even the medals for number of kills were ONLY TWO - the Radley-Walter's and Pool's.
