I bet those [edited] in Pz IIs weren't spamming "gold noob, *ing MM, go play tetris". BTW, how they count destroyed tanks (and who shot them)? Is there a NKVD officer on every tank's turret with a notepad?

Guys, please stay on topic ;). This is not the place to discuss what has been removed / what will be added, it's a thread about the article and its content.

Are you referring to having an article about for example Carius or Boelter, or implementing additional German tanker based medals in the game?

I am referring not about articles, just i saw that we have medals named after romanian, italian, russians and etc but no german vet, which i find strange that's all.I dont think it would be big problem to make with some vet that was good and that would not make you problems with the german goverment( which i dont get why would have problem about some game medals but anyway).Just take it as suggestion if you like. Otherwise thanks for posting the story about Kolobanov, as a person interested in history i like reading it :)

I like the honest way differing accounts and sources were mentioned. These soldiers who came of age in the `30s lived in hard times, whatever their nationality. It is interesting to hear of their  exploits, and to be thankful we are spared their hardships.

Kolobanov is always with me picking off the targets with great accuracy:

My Kolobanov is of course modelled on the real life hero, I like to think though that my digital version in nearly as badass as the real thing.

Nope. They removed Wittman's medal because the German government told them to- look it up.

I'd like to see some sources on that.

Actually no, It's forbidden by law in germany to promote anything related to the german fascism regime during WW2. They take this 'promoting' very broad.

Like above I'd like some sources for this statement.

While it is forbidden in germany to publicly show nazi symbols and/or otherwise express support of nazi propaganda there is no law stating its forbidden to retell actual ww2 events while highlighting personal heroism of individuals that fought in it. No matter their political beliefs because for the situation at hand they simply don't count.

How do I know that? Well I live in germany and there are quite a few historical books and stories that clearly show what some german soldiers endured highlighting breathtaking heroism and they are not banned.

I don't want to state that german soldiers are better than others but that they deserve the same praise as soldiers from russia, poland, france, the uk, us, or whatever nation you prefer because war is hell and they all suffered in it because ONE madman started it.

Well back to the topic at hand while the medal sounds awesome (destroying 22 tanks coming out of it unharmed) if you look at the facts stated above those where Pz. II and III wich simply lack the firepower to hurt a KW-1.

Does anyone know anything about the "new" monument in Minsk?

Next time I'm there I will have to check it out!

Who cares what nation the tanker is from? A good tanker is a good tanker- full stop. Nation only matters if you want to briefly gloat in some national pride.

i dont care at all about their names but just as u said good tanker is good tanker so why not Wittman they could change his name just a lil bit but noone can deny he was good tanker on wrong side :)

In 1939 he served in the Winter War against Finland and was part of the column entering Vyborg at the end of the conflict. Although originally commended by the Soviets for his actions in the war, he was soon reprimanded for fraternizing with the enemy.

He probably wasn't a bad person and felt no prejudice nor hate against Finnish soldiers or civilians.

Block Quote

In total, 43 German tanks were destroyed (mostly Panzer IIs and Panzer IIIs), 22 of them by Kolobanov’s own KV-1.

KV-1 vs. PzII and PzIII... confrontation MM working as intended :teethhappy:

Well, the Russians (or better to say, Soviets) exploited the opportunities and advantages given by terrain, position, weather and firepower. Probably even well coordinated ambush which could have ended very differently if Germans used their air supremacy (the slow moving KV-1s would be an easy prey for Stukas)

Such engagements were quite typical for Germans years later, when well hidden Tigers and Panthers were destroying T-34s on open space. Even the comparison of firepower (KV-1s vs. Pz. IIIs/Tigers vs. T-34s) is very similar, no to mention the better optics, radios and usually even recon.

We do have some medals named after German tank commanders , such as Carius' Medal and Knispel's Medal in Step Achievements. Yes, we no longer have an actively rewarded German tank commander related medal in Epic Achievements, but the Bölter's Medal has been retained in the list of previous achievements. The Bölter's Medal was not removed, nor was its awarding stopped because it is a German tank commander, it was removed from active use do to a simple reason we already have an achievement for six frags - Top Gun, and an achievement eight frags, so there was no need to have a seven frag medal, due to over saturation.

Wittman was removed due to certain nations laws and legislation having an issue with SS related personas, and additionally we do not want to promote Schutzstaffel members in our game, no matter their abilities. Which leaves us with Johannes Bölter ,Kurt Knispel, Otto Carius, and Ernst Barkmann as possible in game medals out of prominent German tankers. First three names are already in the game, even tough Bölter's Medal is no longer awarded. Whereas Barkmann cannot be implemented into the game due to being a Waffen-SS soldier. And we do not want to force and fabricate medal awards just so we have German medal, I do not believe it is good nor necessary.

In any case we should be focusing tankmanship being a priority for having a medal in the game, rather than nationality, and it being well adapted to the game mechanics.

Glad you liked the story :)
