Hello Tankers,

this mod will always display the silouhette oulines of ALLIED tanks, whenever they are a configurable distance away from your tank.

It also lets you configure the highlight silouhette colors of allied and enemy tanks.

Intended purpose of this mod is to prevent teamdamage when firing into melee brawls from afar, as normally you can only keep track of the enemy or allied outline as you keep your reticle on them. (Usually you target the enemy and the ally gets in the way at the wrong time...)

It also might help to spot the odd "YOLO" scout running at high speed into your fully zoomed in reticle just in time to pull up your triggerfinger. :D

You can press Numpad 1 to toggle the outlines on/off.

Here are a few screenshots showing how it works:

I dropped the Mod API configuration because of ongoing problems. I returned to a version with xml config in res_mods.

No further ado:

Ofc. :)

It is also compatible with the safe shot mod out there this way (the one that blocks your gun from going off when the silouhette turns green). :D

Oh and before ppl. wonder, WG support told me this mod is legal as far as they are concerned. *thumbs-up*

Oh boy... Inb4 people get banned for using this, wouldn't be a surprise knowing WG and especially EU support.. :bajan:

No but seriously, cant see a reason for this mod to be illegal anyway.

Nice one, hopefully this will make players think twice before herpa-derping a shot in your back because there was a red icon in that direction.

Now all we need is a "Think twice arty!" mod that will pop up a window saying "Do you really want to take that shot? -Yes- -No-" when a friendly tank is within his aiming reticle :blinky:

Thank you Locastans, good job on this mod.

Is that working just like "Render Model Mod" (by uragan1987) ? Because I see it does the same thing. :)

Spoiler

Edit: guess I see the difference now, Render Model has no range limitation and is working also for enemy tanks, while your mod is for allied team only,

Is there a way to have this restricted to sniper mode only?

Hey Locastan

Great job on the mod

I think this is a good mod... although the green silouhette appears when you over mouse the allied tank, sometimes you dont see it and you think u have a clean shot but your reticle is over the friendly.

this way you know that there is a chance that your shot can hit the allied.

+1 by me

inté...

Yes exactly...the rendermodel by uragan is also illegal because it will display enemy outlines through walls and obstacles. It basically falls into the category of the agent orange mods out there.

@getREKD: Theoretically possible, although I often prefer arcade mode to do diving shots on long range instead of sniper mode. So restricting it to sniper mode might not be the best choice for me. ;)

@LRD: The silouhette should appear regardless, but the part overlapping another silouhette might be a mixed/different color than green. Its an engine thing I am afraid. (i.e two allied tanks overlapping gets you a yellow outline)

HighFlyer15 featured this on his newest video (youtube), and I asked him there about this: The ally lines are visible even when the HUD is hidden (with V). Does not look good on screencaps. There should be a way to link the on/off with the HUD? And maybe disable for arty mode altogether... And after death, everything 100m away from my wreck has the lines also. Otherwise, seems pretty useful for my usage, nice that someone thought of this. I may have indeed put a few into allies before this mod. So thanks!

I guess we've all been there...especially bad for those owning a FV death star or JP-E100. ^^

Small update:

Changes of _811a version:

-  Fixed the silouhette of your own tank when hiding behind foliage and bushes, so you can check your own camouflage coverage. ;)
