best tank i have purchased, along with JP 2, those two tanks are awesome, why didnt i get them sooner :( although only 3 battles with m103 so far, jesus, its good, aced it on 3rd battle, for now ~ 3k dpb, jp 2 has a bit less after first 10 battles, but thats cause i played it much more agressively, i only free xped first 120mm gun, and it works like a charm. or maybe its good that i got it just now so i wont ruin stats on it with scrub playstyle, like on e75, which was my first line i grinded and rushed it. still recovering, but it wont ever get as good as it should be, to reflect the best tier9 HT as it is. So far it seems like m103s and upcoming e5s playstyle is very nice for me, as it is jack of all trades, master of none, it looks like it works very well in wot enviroment as it is now :)

It gets even better. I enjoyed the M103 and I got all the upgrades on it before moving on to the E5. Fully upgraded the M103 is a very nice heavy tank. When you get the E5 if you go down that line its like a M103 on a strong espresso, so much more responsive and reactive compared to M103 but its a arty magnet. I still have the M103 and I still play it more than the E5. More because I don't enjoy the Tier X battles so much.

that's true.  m1o3 on tier 7 match can do quite easy 3500 damage if you are in a good team.

anyone thinking M103s armor is bad is insane ...

if you work the armor right you can stand against T10s easily

4410 damage blocked by armor against T10 heavies ...

nonexistant armor indeed ... or maybe you have nonexistant skill to use the armor of one of the best T9 tanks ...

Well, I am loathing and detesting this pos.  Huge, sluggish, no armour, puny gun.

However, reading the above it looks like I need to persist. Still stock, so maybe I will blow some free exp for the middle gun at least.  Thanks all for the tips.

You need the gun! Once you have the gun and you punch holes in E100s and IS-7s you will start to realize what the M103 is all about. The gun is absolutely fantastic and you can kill anything from any tier with it. The M103 is one of my favorite tanks and it is all thanks to the gun. Rest of the tank I can live with, sure it could have armor like a german heavy tank and mobility like the french but as always something has to give and I am willing to pay for the gun. :smiles:

Not sure if it's a coincidence or a nerf - I got the top of my turret, just above the gun (not commaders hatch!) pened 4 or 5 times in a row. The angle for that shot is crazy - 10 deg maybe, should've been all bounces as I understand WoT mechanics. Any suggestions, ideas? IS-7 was doing the shooting.

I don't know how was it before HD but this tank has no armor. I can live with weak hull but turret is very weak. Roof is overmatch for 120mm guns and other than mantlet tier 8 can penetrate you (cca 210 mm of effective armor on cheeks). However, T110E5 can hold its own (on test server).

It is pain in the [edited]tank, even lights can pen that thingy on turret. One only good thing about this useless pieceofshit tank is gun.

The tank is ridiculously good but it's a trap for players who don't recognise the different way you have to play it compared to the previous two hull-down masters. I played it much like a T29 and T32 to begin with and my stats showed it too: 45% wins after 145 battles was [edited]atrocious but then I shelved it and came back to it later, once I had stepped up a bit. The way you have to play this tank is as a supremely good peek tank, preferably in a hull-down location: Poke a ridge, between some rocks or stick your turret around some rubble and almost nothing can penetrate you before you drive back.

What you absolutely CANNOT do is sit still like in a T29 or T32 because that will get you penned very easily: Allowing the enemy to aim at you is forbidden, so you peek out and shoot before retrating to cover. The tank is also very very good at sniping and has a stupidly high DPM and penetration for a heavy at that tier. The armor is also troll enough to bounce almost anything if you force people to take a snapshot: As someone else wisely put it on another forum, the guide to using the M103 armor is pressing WASDSASDWSDADSWSASDWASDASA. Basically, almost never sit still, rock back and forth at a distance to make it hard to aim at turret weakspots, wiggle your hull and move erratically when someone enters CQC battle. Keep in mind that if you're not facing a tier 10 medium tank, you will probably have a DPM that almost matches anything else if you can make them bounce once.

Finally, take advantage of tanks that are not aiming at you or are unaware of your presence: You can pump out 2144 damage per minute, before stat boosting equipment and crew skills, which is ridiculously high. In comparison, an E-75 has 1872 and an IS-8 has 2147 (but only because it has higher alpha, you still fire much faster at 5.36 RPM vs its 4.88 which is important in a duel - Them missing or bouncing once is way more important than you doing the same).

It isnt very good for peek-a-boo because of low reverse speed. Yes, it is good for sniping, yes it can bounce shots now and then, but "armor" is very unreliable (at least when you driving it but when opponent is driving it then is impenetrable because RNG [edited]you).

It is heavy tank with paper armor, poor maneuverability  and I personally dont like it.

Just stop being bad. Peek-a-boo is not exposing your sides to the enemy and hanging around, it's poking your gun out when it's safe-ish, taking a shot and reversing back in cover.

I am very surprised by the mixed comments on this tank. It seems like its a bit of a marmite.

For me, maybe I have just had poor games, but it under performs dreadfully. The armour is a joke, mobility is poor, the canon is OK but it pens less reliably than the Russian tier 9 tanks and is not as accurate as the German. It may have been a good tank once, but today its purely a grind to the tier 10.

I have had good games. In fact I have done very well with a win rate around 55% and an average XP just under 900, but only very few of these games "felt" like good games. For me I think the biggest problem is the tracks. You pop out from behind cover to get your snap shot in and some tiddly little tank hits you and knocks out your tracks. its not a chance to lose tracks; simply every time you are hit you lose your tracks. It makes it almost impossible to play as a high tier heavy as you need to take a few hits for the team.

All in all a tank that I can not possibly recommend.

Thank you very much for confirming my doubts about this tank.  You've summed up my feelings exactly.  Against other tier 9 heavies it's at a disadvantage, so I typically try to play it as a medium on steroids.  I had much better battles with the T32 and am only grinding it through to tier 10.  It's a shame i put paint on it because I'm not sure if it's a keeper once it's maxed out.

Are you both talking about a stock tank or something?  It's a fabulous tank. fast, good armor, great gun. What is not too like?  I'd say that it is definitely one of the best tier 9 heavies currently in the game. A keeper for me.

Nice M103 game, 7 kills - http://wotreplays.co...ownload/1381783

My mates did their share as well. I have to admit I played it more like a med than HT (a bit cowardly at times).
