I think we all like the new HD tank models (not sure if I'm allowed to link to them)

However, I've heard a lot of people saying the new models are "too shiny/clean", "not rusty/dirty" enough.

What if, as we play games in the vehicle, we unlock levels of "grime" which we can choose to apply or not (much like another game I could mention)

e.g.

0-50 games - shiny shiny, it hurts my eyes

50-100 getting muddy and dusty now

100-200 mud + rust

etc etc

It would be a nice "bonus" for veteran players playing the same vehicle over and over again and would add some variety

Thoughts?

If you want rusty look go play WT scrapyard tanks. We don't want. Like SerB once said, no self respecting military would ever allow their tanks to look like WT scrapyard junk.

Note that the OP Stated that these appearance modifiers are optional, not forced. If you want to drive your tank without them or you want to drive a tank that as you claim is "WT scrapyard junk", then it's completely your choice. Personally, I'm not fond of the idea of anything that changes the appearance massively, but a slight rust effect doesn't hurt.

How about having rusty as a camo pattern, make it an option.  I see no problem with that.

Maybe as well as mud/rust etc "veteran" vehicles, those which have played a lot of games, would accumulate more external trappings i.e. boxes, barrels, netting, dents, dings etc

My overall point was that a tank straight from the production line (0 battles) will not look the same after 50 battles (I realise that IRL most tanks didn't see 50 battles)

Spoiler

doesn't that look like something an army could have? There is a slider to change how rusty and dirty your tank is. Also note the 60 fps, while in WoT its more like 40.

I quite like this idea actually. Maybe not so much the rust but would be a nice touch to have a more personalised vehicle the more games you play in it.

This is really interesting the way to put it. Now I don't know about rust but too much would be too stupid. Also if you have the choice to chose how dirty your tank looks then I would like that, when you first drive your tank it should be clean and then depending the amount of games the dirt and mud would accumulate but I'd like one more twist, I would like to keep the dents from deflected shots (some of them 1-3 per side). Ow and not to forget I would love the choice to clean your tank when ever you feel like and return it back to it's original shiny state (and lets hope that WG won't charge you to clean it - lol -).

Inb4 all our tanks look more and more like a derelict piece of crap as we play them and all it takes to make them look nice and shiny again is 250 gold. :child:

Is that really WT? What happened to the graphics? Last time I checked it out it looked awesome and this screenshot looks worse than WoT on low/medium... Just look at the trees in the back - they are reduced to simple spheres... Not saying anything about background and the sky

As for the new HD models in WoT - I agree, they look a bit too shiny. But only the tracks and wheels. As far I know there will be some effect of tanks getting dirty from mud/sand introduced later on. Hull paint has some scratches so it doesn't look too new IMO. Also, there wasn't that many tanks surviving long enough to get rusty on the WWII battlefields anyway so WoT is actually more realistic than WT in this aspect. Most tanks got destroyed/damaged/disabled short after leaving factory and being deployed.

I think the idea of "worn out" camo paint is good. Just make it a free/cheap camo patter which gets unlocked when getting elite status on that tank.

I would really like some kind of progression cosmetic stuff.

I like the idea. But is better an option for this, if player want it or not...

you could make it into a camo of some sorts but yeah. Also it gives the enemy the impression the tank is a run downed rust bucket when really it is a fully functional (insert tank).

A very nice idea indeed!

now we just need bling bling camo:trollface: ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. CTRL+F5 reloads the whole page.
