It's the combination of a few characteristics that makes it so strong, none of them alone would make it that good. Take away the very good gun depression for example and it would be downright mediocre.

Holy s**t. I have heard the stories and i have seen the videos of this tank before. But all i can say now that i got it myself is holy freaking s**t. This has to be the most OP tank i have driven so far in my 9000+ matches of WoT (and yes, i have an E25). It is an absolute beast, even in tier 9 games. So far, after 61 battles, i have a WR of 69% with 1660+ dpg (for around 840 taken), 3.5+ destruction ratio and 2500+ WN8, making it one of the best tanks in my garage. And those stats are still going up, since i played average at best for the first ~30 matches which i needed to fully upgrade this tank (no prem account) and the crew isnt even 50% into their first skill. For camparison: my overall WN8 is just ~1750 and even in my best "stat-padder" light tank i only manage ~2200 WN8. Heck, i had my highest base XP game ever (1760xp) in this tank before it was even fully upgraded. So either i am just getting really, really lucky so far or the T29 is ridiculously strong for a tier 7 tank. Sure, the hull is rubbish, but most tier 7 HTs can easily be penetrated in the hull, so i dont really see that as a big disadvantage. And it is more than a fair trade-off for being pretty much invulnerable when hull down in an arty safe location. I always knew this tank was good, but i never thought it would be that good. I am still absolutely amazed (and surprised how this thing has not been nerfed yet...)

It hasn't been nerfed yet for the same reason the IS-3 (or the T110E5) hasn't been nerfed. All three of those tanks have a widely known reputation for being OP and because of that lots and lots of tomatoes drive them. Because a lot of tomatoes drive them, they have mediocre overall statistics. It's probably one of, if not THE, most overpowered tank in the game but WG works with average stats so they it stay OP.

This is the best tank ever when you are top tier

It is really bad when there are high tiers and boy does that happen a lot

A gum rammer helps a lot for this tank. just the right discount in reload time that can give you the edge when you encounter a higer tier tank of a comparable heavy. i struggled in the first battles, but now i like the tank.

i suck in mine.. WR of 35%... but my WN8 is above my average... still i must do something very wrong... even if i have quite a few games with over 2.5k damage.

Dont worry, its probably just bad luck, it just happens sometimes. Ever since i said how good it is on the previous page, everything went to sh*t for me as well. Its like i jinxed it. Have not had a single decent match with it since then. In just 19 games my WN8 in it dropped by almost 200, dpg dropped by about 120 and so on.

Okay... Been playing the T-29 nearly another four months since my earlier posts, and I think we're beginning to understand one another...

I suspect part (possibly the biggest part) of my earlier distress was down to having expectations based on a lot of "OMG, most OP tonk EVAH!" posts, leading me to expect something utterly devastating / nigh invulnerable, which of course it isn't...

What was said above about picking one's positions carefully is of course entirely correct; T-29 (and it's fatter stablemate, the T-30 TD) are by far the most sensitive to this of my 'bigger' wagons, and I've become quite a lot better at finding viable hull-down positions, and exploiting the scenery.

Himmelsderp? Either castle Hill, or Banana Road, and hide behind the rubble (Dropped a Tiger, an opposing T-29 and a Russian TD there earlier this week!); almost everywhere else, hang back at second line, and be happy about gifting spotting damage to my teammates (I find Siegfried Line a gift for this), the big gun seems to benefit from a technique discussed elsewhere - waiting a second or so after the aiming circle closes fully, and it seems less inclined to ridiculous misses.

It doesn't really like going into towns, as the weak hull doesn't peek-a-boom well; the slow RoF is still a pain in the bum, and it's still very tough to contribute much to tier IX games - but not impossible! I find the thing to do in Tier IX engagements is to try to let the Big Boys hassle it out between themselves, and play it like a fat, slow medium, or a turreted TD - keep a distance, and try to either pick on the Red Team's softer targets, or get sneaky side / back shots on the Big 'Uns... It's amazing how many people will happily show you the sides of their turrets, for example.

Oh, and if the enemy let you, splattering the enemy Arty is always fun!

I've learned a lot more about Hulldown, and about sidescraping (hard, but doable against similar-tier opponents). I have got it Elited, and even scrounged a Top Gun for it, which would have astonished me when I started running it back in June... I plan to keep running it until I get the crew into their third skill before trading up to the T32 (also, to accrue enough XP to take the T-32 out fully upgraded). Crew currently at about 84% of second skill, so don't have BiA yet - not going any higher till then!

The principal bane of my life at the moment is the mobile Atlantic Wall bunkers the Japanese use as heavy tanks at Tiers VI-IX, and getting gang-humped by packs of Meds, where I am doomed by my slow reload and poor traverse, but that's true for any heavy, so hey...

Thanks, guys, for all the advice - and for being (fairly) patient when I was rage-posting in three pages ago :great:

T29 is tier 7.5. Best tier 7 HT bar none.

Sorry, realized I was necro posting too late.

You must be a noob then, no offence. It's the best tier 7 HT. 198 penetration is more than enough, 320 damage is good, you can get the reload under 10 seconds, and mobility is not bad, turret is impenetrable, tier 5's can't penetrate the hull. What's to complain about?

Best check QB's channel where 2 T29's did something like 15k damage in a game on the NA server. I think it was a tier 7 game but was full of panthers offered as a gift by WG North America as part of the 4th July celebrations.

my best WN8 is in the T29, it was hard at first, but yea the tank is a beast. but the turret is not impenetrable anymore.. lots of stuff can pen it.. skorpions, etc... but still a very good tank.
