am I a bit nit picky ? - probably yes :great:

but when i hear english speaking people pronouncing Nashorn as Nashhorn i get mad...

so here is how to do it.

lets rip it apart: :izmena:

Nase = nose

Horn = horn

Nas Horn = nos(e) horn = Rhino

the "sh" in englisch equals the "sch" in german

for example "ship" = "Schiff"

have fun

greetings Phobos

Nâs-horrn is I think the correct pronounceuation (hope I typed that right...).

For Caernarvorn I think it would be Kär-na-vorn.

I visited Caernarvon castle years ago and nearly strangled a guy when he tried to tell the locale guide, that was showing us round the site. That he was saying the name wrong. The guy trying to teach a Welsh man the "correct" pronunciation of his native language was a Yank. So was very much up his own a*s. But looking back on it now I do wonder if the guy was just trying to wind the taff up. If he was it backfired on him as it was me and two other English men that took offence not the tour guide.

As for the Nashorn I fully get why Germans get so miffed about other people failing to get the word out correctly. And when I meet up with a German that can say squirrel correctly and without the help of alcohol I will stop calling the Nashorn the Nat Horn. :smile:
