Ive been thinking of getting a chaffee, but seriously all I here is its a 'special light', can somebody answer why? as upon the rare occasion that I do see them, I never think they are anything 'special'.

Maybe it used to be special while it was the scout with the highest view range and best combat skills.

But since the introduction of WZs and AMX and T Series, the Chaffee is nothing special anymore.

There's tons of Chaffee owners out there.

I happen to have one that has over 1500 battles on record. Has a little star for a recognition of good service on barrel and everything.

That tank has gone through hell and back. And right now it lingers with scars of the past and new wounds from today.
I do hope they will give the old girl some rest soon.

Btw, grind some exp on it for quick research of the tree going up. :)

It's special, because it can literally carry tier 9 game!
Done it myself when i got some lucky on my side.

1. It has insane gun!
2. The agility, how it turns and not lose speed (especially when u got 100 octane goin), is mind blowing. I'd say 75 % tanks from tier 5 to up can't trace chaffe with turret rotation only. And a good half of those can't trace circling chaffe even if they move hull and turret together. And then there's fixed barrels... he he heh heh...
3. View range, tho not special anymore, but still is great.

You can imagine pissed off E 75 or IS 8 driver, who has lost half of team health, because someone invisible shot them (thanks to your binoculars in bush). And then you appear next to him! He is allready doing something, but you have the effect of hornet, that approaches beer drinking man, during summer day. It goes like this:
First, the dude spots you, but he will attemt to ignore you, since he has serious things to do. Like killing your teammate or something.
You end up at his engine compartment and begin doing quick fixes to it, with your tool, that hammers 100 dmg at the time. He has like 1900 to go, so first 2 shots will be ignored, like mosquito bites.
Then he begins to understand, when engine goes yellow and hp is shrinking fast, that he still has to deal with you. And the tango begins. Chaffee leads and big mighty heavy tank is swept across the dancefloor, untill it is breathless.
Some heavys give up, when they got 300 hp left and probrably either exit to carage or have issue of smashed keyboard, since they just don't move anymore.

So yeah, Chaffee is special!
Chaffee, is a tank, that often gets ppl to stay in spectator mode and just watch and chat. It is that fun to watch it work!
Everybody goes "gj Chaffee" when he takes another tank out... and kind of... noone is really mad, when you end up getting killed by the enemy... they just go "awww nice try Chaffee".

Edit :
Some examples -  http://wotreplays.com/site/765488#prokhorovka-wolfie90-m24_chaffee  - 12 k exp earned in 1 battle
and  -   http://wotreplays.com/site/773145#prokhorovka-wolfie90-m24_chaffee   - 16 k exp earned in 1 battle

Nice results.

But Scouting is still not rewarded enough, for the work done.

A scout can do x-times more damage upon detection than a TD or heavy with dealing damage and still gets merely more XP than the TD or Heavy.

That's strange, in a average/good chaffee game i always end up in the top3 of XP. Sometimes even withouth doing any dmg myself (on the right map / right spot).

And getting matched up against tier9/10 is actually a good thing, they have longer reloads AND with some tds huge aimtime so if you keep moving they WILL have a hard time hitting you (if they do you're dead though). And ANY shot fired at you is not fired at your teammates :)

It's a rather expensive tank to drive though, but it's an XP / WIN8 farmer for me.

Yesterday I took a Tiger who tried to rush me from 1500-0 health without getting hit in about 20secs, then carried on with my scouting route. The Chaffee can pen T10's from the rear and is one of the few tanks I've played which can get behind heavies without them noticing.. I'm not even a particularly good player!

I love my chaffee, but I'm nervous about the upcoming patches destroying my little toy tank (not claiming to be good in it or anything ofc).

In a good game im also among the top 3 players, with my scouts.

But when i get only 3XP points more than a TD who did much less damage, than i did by providing damage upon spotting then i know how much spotting is valued in WoT.

I spotted T9 and 10 tanks only and i dont know which tanks this TD damaged but the differenz is just too big to be only rewarded with almost the same amout of XP.

I have been playing with a Chaffee tank, which, I do like.  However, the question I ask is, "Who else has this tank and are you always matched against high tier tanks in battles?". I've played a few matches with it now and it has NEVER been matched against it's own tier level.  Any suggestions as to why this should be?

I suppose you don't learn the basics, like light tank MM, when you Bot your way passed 11 housand battles.

This is what happens when a Chaffee ends up in a tier 7 game:

That's a good game. But you need the right amount of stupid in both teams to pull it off. But still GG!

The chaffee is awesome as it is, and in 9.3 the t8 us light will come along and it will get "proper" t5 light tank mm. the tier 6 will be basically what the chaffee is now, just slightly nerfed... the tier 7 and 8 will be awesome.

Maybe. I just want a decent scout with some gun depression, so I hope the tier 7/8 are nice.

Like a nimbler WZ-132 with 10 depression hopefully... It's what I've been dreaming of for years.

I will probably keep all the lights on that line, although I may not pluck up the courage to play the down-tiered Chaffee for a while :S
