You missed out facebook and twitter and legally microsoft and nokia are sister companies since the merger...

 

Apple and Samsung are also officially the biggest tech companies in the world....

@Tricky: These are some of my favourite companies hand-picked, so I wasn't going for the biggest only. Actually Nokia's phone department, which developed on the windows phone, symbian and S40 was only sold to Microsoft. Nokia has still some in-house guys who did this Android phone lately and they are oriented for software making at the moment.

I would go with IBM. This is one of the first big computing companies to intentionally kill off its own income stream by pissing off its user base. IBM has had a very turbulent time of it in the last 50 years. They are the classic "missed out" company in the field of developing technology.  Everything from the software, net to mobile phones and weapons tec. A really good example of what not to do if you want to stay at the cutting edge.
