So I've decided I'd travel down the American auto-loader line. Yesterday I bought the T71 - A fantastic tank in my eyes. I've played some games in the AMX light tank series line but the T71 when compared to the AMX 13 75 is just better or as good as it in almost every way.

But then I noticed this: I come out with games where I do 2500 damage and 1500+ damage from my help, and get mastery 3rd or 2nd. I wonder: how does it need to be played in it's optimal performance?

My own playstyle is this: analyze the battle, see where your team is going, find a bush to get some early spots or scout active over hills and return (the Prokhorovka middle hill idea), and when there are almost no enemies alive destroy artillery and/or flank the remaining tanks.

What would be the best performance for the T71 and what should I do/buy/train to use the T71 to it's optimal performance? Because the potential I can see from this tank is amazing.

After german series, I decided to go t57 :) And i am one of the t71 players.

As u know t71 is a magazine-fed tier.So it is hard to  get mastery 1 or best.

2500 damage is a good performence i think but there are better players :):)

Equipment wise (When i still had my T71) I went for Rammer   Enhanced Gun Layer, Vertical Stabilizer and Vents.

This suited my quite aggressive scouting style. There is the argument to take Coated Optics to extend your view range but i felt that 400m Is more than enough so went for VertStab to deal out the damage on the move.

However some games i would swap in a camo net for my VertStab if i wanted a more laid back game.

Funnily enough my ace tanker game had the Camo net when it would have been more useful to have had a VertStab!

I would really recommend putting a 100% crew in the T71 as it helps considerably.

I went:  Commander : Sixth Sense, Situational Awareness

            Gunner: Camouflage, Dead eye

            Driver: Camouflage, Clutch Braking

Of course i would recommend fiddling around with the tank to see what fits you best

Edit: Realised it said Rammer which isn't mountable *facepalm*. Changed it to Enhanced Gun Layer which is what I meant! (Don't ask how i got them mixed up >.<

Equipment: Rammer???? ofc in an auto-loader ^^ take Optics (must-have)

Skills: Get 100% Camo as fast as possible. 6th sense ...

+ Offroader is most effective driver skill

Playstyle:

1) If you still dont have 6th sense, play carefully and wait for the right situation as you described. (maybe with binocular instead of optics)

2) If 6th sense and good camo-values are available try to be more agressive when scouting at start. (not being seen while spotting is your goal) Further situations depend on maps.

Thanks for the replies! I will see what equipment fits me best. My crew is taken over from the T32 (my best US crew ^^) But it works fine. It has a full repair crew which is always nice if you are playing aggresive.

And I found out some ways how I like playing it, so I think I can get some results!

I got ace mastery badge for a game with 6 kills and 4k damage, that also earned me a high calibre achievement. Thanks to one of those medals I got courageous contribution and therefor the ace, although we lost.

Optics, VStab and Vents is pretty much a must. You could argue about exchanging Vents for EGLD if you don't like the aimtime, but stopping and sniping aren't what you should focus on.

If you can get 3k spotting dmg and 1k dmg on your own, that's much better than 2.5k dmg without any spotting.

And getting 5-10k spotting damage is easily possible on the right maps.

As for skills: full Camo, 6th Sense are first priority. After that, the view range perks come in handy, Offroad Driving and Clutch Braking are nice too. The gunner can make good use of Deadeye and Snapshot. Repair is always nice to have, but you should play to not get hit in the first place and if you get tracked, repair (with a consumable) and get the hell out.

Just watched it, not a bad game at all considering the map is pretty awkward for scouts and your engine got taken out.

Two small pieces of advice:

In the beginning, when you circle around the Tiger, that's a perfect opportunity to use autoaim. In that situation it would allow you to aim more precisely, while keeping eyes on the road. Also, autoaim always is synched up with the server, so some random bump won't screw up your reticle.

Then later, when facing the KV-1S in the cap, there's no real need to stop and give him a huge target. If you don't wanna drive around him or if you run into the building, at least back up a bit, to give him the smallest target possible and when you think he's about to fire, pull back behind the building. It drives them crazy, given how slowly they aim and how much turning the turret increases the dispersion.

Be prepared to take a massive hit to your ratings.

You can carry well in a heavy, but in a scout.... You cant do much if the rest of your team cant hit a barn door!

Actually my ratings went up thanks to the T71. I didn't even freeXP anything and neither retrained the crew with gold. My crew was only at 5% camo or something when I sent them back to 90%. So I really did the normal stock tier grind. This tank can do both scouting and dealing opportunity damage really nicely.

The T71 is one of those "unique" tanks. Althought I've researched the M103, meaning I played a lot in the American heavy brance, that only gave the modules on the TDs a boost. Unless you have fully researched the M103, the radio becomes free on the T71. But it's also not a horrible grind. I played like 20 games stock, and after like 7 games I had the gun. And the crew? I sold my T32, and since that is my crew I used since the T29 (650+ games with it), it has some great skills :)

BTW, I'm almost at the T69, does anyone have feedback on that?

I have a review and game play guide in my signature. Hopefully it will help you with some of the questions you may have.

Im 52% WR overall, playing T71 from over a month and last week i hit M badge (im allways using normal ammo and standard consumables with vent, stab and optics). Tho i was probably lucky but did almost 4000 damage with 5 tanks dead and in result got 2127xp (with prem) http://wotreplays.com/site/966637

So u probably need to get into non tier 10 battle and be lucky.

I am a more passive scouting person, so was wondering

With vents and binocs it would get excessive view range (532m indicated for me) which afaik would be used to counter the cammo rating of the targets spotting them at further ranges (but within 445m), is it so, or is there a max view range after which the spotting calculations no longer need it.

You can carry in a T71 - early game it can move and spot very well, so is very useful, but carrying is often about the late game.  There you have a very fast stealthy tank with huge view range and the ability to deal 900 damage fast.  Perfect for ambushing slow damaged tanks and finishing them off.

This tank could be great, but most maps are just "lanes" now instead of open. There is no chance for you to go ahead and scout, especially when enemy TDs can just stand there in the bush with binos and out-spot you.

This is not just a problem for T71 but for all light tanks in my opinion. Map design makes it more and more difficult for them to actually scout.

Love the T71 though, all said.
