Hello Dear Tank Community!

Today playing WoT I noticed on my TS channel that my colleague is online for 44 minutes (see above). And it seems to me that someone made a mistake in translation. None of the colleagues do not want to admit my arguments and claims that "since" is correct. In my opinion it should be "for" because he "is online for 44 minutes" and not "44 minutes since some time in the past"

I'm not a native speaker of English, but each page to learn this language explains the difference between for and since in this way: SINCE use knowing the beginning of the period, and the FOR to express a certain period of time has elapsed. In my opinion in this particular case, 44 minutes is a period of time that has elapsed, and not particular point in time.

Is, therefore, in this translation error occurred, or "since" is correct?

IMO it is not correct. It should be "For".

"since" would be used if the time the user started was shown. ie: online since xx:xx time

That does sound odd, should be "online since XX.XX minutes ago" or just "online for XX.XX minutes". I think (I'm not a native English speaker either).

Exactly that what I mean.

IMO "since" should be used only if there would be a date. For example, 6:20 AM. Not period of time like an hour or some minutes.

Can some other natives confirm that?

since is pre time, aka time of logging in,

and for is after time, aka time of playing/staying there.

it should be

online since: xx.xx clock time

online for: xx.xx hours/minutes
