Guys
I am  WW2 fiction author and I need help with locating, as best as possible, a battle that occurred between March 17th to April 8th 1942. All I know is it is west of Rzhev and not far from the Volga. The sloped area in which Deutschland Regiment, Reich Division fought was named by the Germans, as 'Jackboot Wood' due to the shape of the wood.

The battle was brutal and came down to hand to hand combat. If it wasn't for elements of GD arriving at the last moment, the Russians would have taken the ground. I have spent hours over maps to try and locate the area, so I can understand the topography, for writing but have failed. If I can't pin point the area for accuracy, then I will use my imagination to recreate the battle.

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

The question intrigued me and I had a look.

Found very little, although there is a gaming site that is recreating the battle?

Perhaps someone there has some info (or is that you too?)?

Thanks for taking a look Yag0. It might help if the name for that particular battle is named by the Russians somewhere, probably in a hidden report somewhere. I even called up the Google sat map to try and locate the ground. There is an immediate rush for the info as many chapters away, but it is a case of just trying to be historical correct as possible. Even tried checking GD but no mention from that units point of view. And as not a well named historian, who can gain access to all sorts, it is limiting and frustrating. But eh, as with all things, the problem will be dealt with one way or another.

Cheers

Thank you, never even considered that approach. Got no where with the gaming chap, although he replied swift enough.

Thank you
