Perhaps it would have been better to have left out SPGs from the game but added assault guns.

Assault guns are not the same as TDs there were the infantry support vehicle to take out bunkers and other enemy strong points.

 

Doubt they could make the switch now but they would fulfill to role that SPGs have albeit in a direct and semi indirect way and mostly at shorter ranges.

Anyone who has used the 3.7 inch howitzer on some British tanks knows you can lob shells and hit targets that are just behind the crest of a slope or hill.

You still have the ability to force enemy tanks to abandon a position and that enemy at least has some chance to fire back which answers one of the complaints about SPGs.

They would of course lose the top down view but gain the same sniper view and aiming method of other tanks.

 

Anyone fancy 53 derpy assault guns replacing SPGs in the game

And it prevents less capable tank players from achieving unicum status.  Plus, many  tank players simply need something to blame other than themselves for their lack of talent and the inability to consistently do well in the game.  Arty fills that need for them.

Hmmmm, or it gives players who have suffered a serious head injury the chance to still play and contribute to a team and have fun.

Arty brings much more to the game than the average HT driver sat in a corner of the map ignoring the game waiting for their team to die so they can fire two shots before getting gang banged. At least most arty are actually paying some attention to the game in progress.

exactly, and like the players who think arty is bad for everyone's game and is the main reason why they are inept at having good battles in a tank.

It adds a splattering to people that like to go to their favorite position, & then try to camp Hull down.

Of course those that camp are not attacking!

So their selfishness helps the team in no way whatsoever!

If you sit still & try to farm like a self serving selfish [edited],  then you deserve arty..

 

It is part of the game for that reason!

When I started playing this a decided to try to learn all off the game. 

Not scream like a girl whenever things did not go my way.... 

 

People like you

Wlll scream like a [edited]whenever anything does not get their way...

 

If arty did not exist you would scream & [edited]about something else.

Because going hull down is absolutely useless for arty since arty basically has no armor at all.   Neither hull down nor sidescraping will prevent even a strong fart from penetration arty's armor.

People whinning about arty are too daft to see the real problem - map design.

 

Map design currently makes most of bigger maps completely 0-1 with only few terrible dominating positions that give enemies next to none chances of reacting to the fire, especially against strong hull-down tanks. As such arty is their to whittle their HP, since such tanks in places that are impossible to flank and usually hard to rush as well would decide the games every time.

 

So if crying kids want to put blame on something, address it properly to map designers.
