It seems logical to disable it overall to stop teamkillers or at least have another mode where you can turn it off.

Because it seems that WG has even less faith in the XBOX community than in the PC community, and that is saying something.

That said, team damage is a good feature that promotes care, tactics and positioning (or should), regardless of the people abusing it.

If you pin the quality of a feature to the people abusing that feature, then you will never win, because people always find a way to abuse whatever you're giving them. You will get rid of some of the abusers (deliberate teamkillers in this instance), but you will gain a horde of entirely new ones.

If you turn team damage off, but leave shell collision on (meaning that you can't do damage to your allies, but your shots will still be blocked by them), you will have trolls that just park in front of you, blocking your shots and there's nothing you can do about it, regardless of the rules. It's a free ticket for trolls. With team damage on, at least they can't do this deliberately for the entire round.

If you turn team damage and shell collision off (aka you can just shoot through allied tanks), then you'll surely soon find endless Conga-lines of tanks, just lining up behind the tank with the most armor, all shooting at the enemy through each other, while the enemy can always just have effective fire at the frontmost tank.

(TOG would become OP. Imagine a TOG with 2 SU-152 or KV-2 behind it or such).

Overall, having teamdamage on is still the best option (or, depending on your view, the lesser evil).

Makes sense now, thanks.
