Hello,

with patch 9.3 the M5 Stuart will get a more historical turret (which is nice) but it will also lose the 75mm howitzer. Instead it gets a 37mm autoloader. Has anybody played this tank on the test server?

Cause the top gun seems rather pointless to me. As far as I know it has the same pen and damage as the 37mm gun on the M3 Stuart, so only 56 pen and 40 damage... at Tier 4? Even the premium shells have only 78 mm pen...urghh... seems like a Tier 4 59-16. Also, what's the point of the autoloader, because the gun already reloads as fast as some autoloaders on the M3. Since the RoF should be the same or higher on the M5, it seems quite pointless.

Long story short: is the M5 still any good? (I liked it with the howitzer)

I liked the howitzer more. did not play the new M5 on test server, if it plays anything like 59-16 but much worse in mobility id rather not try it out to be honest. that guns worthless in higher tiers. the howitzer was a great choice to damage higher tier tanks or track them for ur team. lucky i grinded free exp with the howitzer and the moment the patch is out ill be grabbing chaffee and going to M37 fast due to saved up general free exp. hope to bypass the M37 as it really sucks..

Am glad I played it whilst it still had its little howitzer. Was a beautiful little tank with a nasty bite when cornered. Ground all the experience needed for the Chaffee in that little thing.

Am currently using the Chaffee to stockpile get as much exp as I can.

You dont need much for the next tank. unless you plan on using gold to get exp conversion. wich i wouldnt do if i was you. WG want you to do this. i smell nerfs incoming on ether T49 or Walker Bulldog so im not going to even use bought free exp.

No clue, but I think I can safely say that the Chinese M5A1 Stuart will likely be better now, since it has that gun with 81mm pen on AP.

It's really weird actually.

The "clip" reloads fairly fast, but it only has one "shell". So the moment you fire, the gun starts shooting a five (I think it's five, I will go onto the test server to check) round burst. Once you've started shooting there's no way to stop.

It's sort of like the T-80's autoloader but in one big burst.

EDIT: Yeah so it's a 5 round burst, 0.67s between shots, 7.2s clip reload.

So it's an autocannon not an autoloader?

Yes, that's sounds much more accurate! BUNG BUNG BUNG BUNG BUNG, reload for 7s, etc.

Seems that way, don't know about the mobility though.. The M5's top speed got buffed, what about he agility? Hope they didn't nerf that, the M5 is already sluggish enough.

That doesn't sound too great... I can't stop firing until the clip is empty? And then I have to wait seven seconds for a reload? With a 56 pen, 40 damage gun? At Tier 4? Great... but I think I will still try it once it goes live.

What is the XP cost of the new 37mm autoloader?

With the howizer, you can kill KV-1 or T1 if you have good aim. Now we will get stupid autoloader, so no kills like that will happen anymore.

I have 22k XP on M5. What will happen when 9.3 comes? I will only need 13k (or was it 14k) XP for chaffee.

And the rest?? Wasted?

I am thinking about Finishing the chaffee grind before 9.3. then at least I'd have the XP transferred to the new chaffee to unlock the next tank...

But ten then there is not much time left...

Probably wasted, yes.

You still have several days. Grinding out 30k Exp should be doable, especially if you have Free Exp lying around. If you get the Chaffee before 9.3 you'll get a 43k refund, which should get you all of the modules and likely get you partway to the T37 as well.

only if you've  alredy reasearched the m7

both m5s are horrible and while the autoloader is better than the howitzer it's inferior to the 57mm and the only thing the m5 is good for is suicide scouting...at least with my level of competence with the machine. in my opinion the m5 is the worst tank in the game the m5a1 regaing some dignity after the changes to scout mm but i havent played it since said changes and my main problem was 15 t8 matches in a row still got the mastery badge by spotting an entire team

Be aware that the exp will be locked to the chaffee-- i.e you'll need to use gold to convert it to free exp.

Well I think M5 is good. I like it and I regularly do 800dmg in it. I use te 75mm Howitzer.

I already have M7 researched. So I'll research Chaffee before 9.3 and use the XP given out to research Chaffee modules and next tank.

Yes, but it's not a problem if he only unlocks Chaffee. T37 alone will cost 28k to unlock, and I'm sure the remaining modules will take up a good part of the remaining 15k.

M5 was one of my favourite tanks with the horowitzer... It was quite balanced even after the explosive nerf and agility nerf...

Yet another tank I am selling right away... Thanks WG :(

M8 has the howitzer and is essentially the same tank. Hence the change!
