Yup another tank sold, bloody awful now.

Turns and moves like a pregnant whale, Auto-loader is worthless, constant engine damage and a gun that bounces off side armor of most T5.

Loved the old M5, sold the new one. It's a pimped M3 that gets scout MM but can't fulfill the role.

So, WG screwed the balance on yet another vehicle, that is non- soviet. How can you be in the business for many years now and still have no clue on how to make a game balanced. The new m5 is good just for suicide scouting- nothing more. U cant pen anything. Also you have a small health pool, so u cant take a shot or two. Most of the time you are just a practice target. Amazing. I love how WG have probably the best idea of an online game and probably the worst realisation.

Nerfed into oblivion. The lack of agility is the worst bit: you can put up with a crap gun on a scout but it lives and dies on its agility. Literally.

So it follows the T50 and the T-50-2 into tank mediocrity and yet again I'm looking for a decent scout :(

Well I ground out a 6th sense crew in it so I'll wait and see if it catches a correction buff in another patch.  Assuming I find it as bad as you lot when I play it.

I haven't really tried it, apart from one game on the test server.

But the 37mm on the M5 isn't such a good gun, this is just an autocannon version. 56mm of penetration is just a bit... erp. That'd be okay if it got regular tier 4 matchmaking, but we are going to struggle to pen even a Sherman with that :S

It may work at Tier 4, but in Tier 6 and 7 games (which it usually gets, at least when I play it), this thing feels very underwhelming. Meh viewrange and speed, rather bad agility and a gun that is only good for shooting at other lights and arty (even then you will often have to be careful where to aim). The autocannon also seems worse than the regular stock version, because it isn't very effective at anything but close range, because of the inaccurate burst fire. With the howitzer this tank still had issues, but at least it had a bite and was good at tracking and critting enemies, now it's also toothless. It doesn't seem to have any strong and/or unique characteristic compared to other lights anymore.

The M5 is now one of the worst Tanks in the game.... Horrible...

If it only had the same top gun as the M5A1. But as is it right now you can throw it in the trash... I skip it now and pay the last 5k for the Chaffee with free XP

The guns on this tank are a joke. Even with prem rounds you get 71 pen. I fired about 20 apcr rounds into a matilda from point-blank range and got two penetrations. -_-

On the positive side, if you wish to learn some english phrases then you're sure to know what "we didn't penetrate their armor" means after a few games.

Does this tank do anything better than the chinese version?

HAHAHA my god this tanks gun sucks even bounces off nashorns and other M5.

20-30mm lower pen than the average for a T4 light really screws this tank over.

The auto cannon is a waste of time.  Stick with the stock 37mm.  Actually, the whole tank is a waste of time

My penalty for not reading the forums - over 40 k exp sitting on M5 since I was this close to researching Chaffee. No, wargaming, you ain't getting my money for converting it to free xp, ever.

Well finally last night I had enough of the new M5 so paid 250 gold and unlocked the chaffee, something which is pretty unusual for me to do.

I thought this tank performed less well than it used to.

Ok on a plus point its fairly fast but its not agile downright sluggish at times and with its narrow tracks even more so on soft ground.

Gun selection,

With the auto loader/cannon there is a control problem as others have said once you start firing you cannot stop, this can get quite dangerous if your dogfighting an enemy tank and there is a fiendly there too.

The turret cannot keep up in such encounters, if you do a drive by firing away the last 2 or 3 shots will be nowhere near the target and might easily end up in the other friendly.

Its a great gun if you pull up behind an enemy tank and stop but who wants to stop,

If you circle the enemy even if all are on target you will probably get one or two in the rear then some in the side which will probably bounce and then your firing in the front.

You can of course use the stock gun which has the same stats and more control as its singe shot but I found that was too slow firing to be worth using, given the games your put in the autocannon is the only real choice.

With a real autoloader you can fire when your only on target.

If the turret was faster or the gun fired faster but maybe with a slower reload it would probably be more useful

Completely useless vehicle, pure free-XP sink.

I thought the days that they released ****ty tanks like this would be over.

If they want this tank to be stuck with the 37mm gun only they'd need to give it regular T4 matchmaking. And even than it would be no joy to play.

Save yourself some frustration and stay clear of this garbage can if any possible.

Is there a way to use this tank now? It's but a suicide can for me now, even worse than M2 with machine gun.

Should I load it with HE and try to at least scrach the paint of the enemy???
