Odd,my internet says that the word trood or trod was used in middle england for a long time until the dutch started trading more with them and they were influenced by them ,then it turned into turd around the 12th century(around 1100s if I'm not wrong),this is all in norwegian though so I have no idea how accurate it is. also like all info from the internet

lets not quibble over 100 years!

The real question is not how old the word turd is... but if you find it offensive. I'd be interested to know your view... as I get the feeling the use of the word in such a nonchalant manner might be a very british thing. Maybe part of the reason why WG saw fit to change it... on account of the idea they just might not "get it" so to speak.

Theres loads of different names you could change it to, but at the end of the day its the muppet who evaluates your name that deems whether its offensive or not.

Personally I think its funny, and people need to grow up but trolls will be trolls.  Its prob someone you upset ingame and got his clan/friends to report it.  Petty I know but I'd put next years wages on that it happens more often than not.

They'll be telling me i cant have g1nge next as its predjudiced against gingers sheesh.  I should take all their souls instead.

You could always change it to Super Humble Internet Tankers ;)

Good luck getting the clan name back.

Thanks buddy

Sure, what is 100 years between strangers anyway, nothing I tell you.

If I find it offensive is not really the problem is it? "Offense is something taken not given" so as long as a single person on earth finds the word offensive it will be a offensive word.

What makes me wonder is why they thing "TURD" is so much worse then "for Stalin" or any other old russian propaganda you can put on the russian tanks...why is that not wrong? Why is all the german ones that say more or less the same but for "the fatherland"(germany) or Hitler not in game.

I will agree that removing the clan name is silly but so is calling your clan TURD if you ask me.

Edit:Forgot to add 3 words on the end of a sentence.

It's just a bit of harmless and simple humour.....a bit of escapism. There are a lot more serious things in my life than being in a "die-hard" virtual clan that has a serious name.

Euhm .......    Try pronouncing my clan's name .....

And no! In now way is Turd an offensive word .... hell, it's what I reach for when my mind gives me nothing but expletives. It's one of the least offensive bad words I know .... just above dodo. ( I really like calling somebody a dodo ... It doesn't offend anybody, but clearly states you are on the low spectrum of the evolutionary ladder.)

WG... please don't remove good attempts at eloquent, but non-offensive word-plays like this.

Also .... I laughed my [edited]of .... "Terminally Unstable & Relatively Dangerous" is just pure eloquent gold !

So on the one hand we have a group of casual players, who have come up with an incredibly funny acronym and are proud and willing to call themselves TURDS ...

Then on the other hand, we have a bunch of complete turds who feel offended by that and report said clan ... Followed by a Dic (i'm just going to assume his first name is Dic) who feels the need to ban or change that clan name.

This stupid attempts at being politically correct in a language that isn't your mother tongue should stop. It's embarrassing to everybody who has half a brain. There are LOTS of ways to be offensive and get away with it ... this clearly wasn't one of those. For crying out loud, the link to the clan page is more offensive then the word turd !

Edit: Ahhh ... they added the way to pronounce my clan's name to the filter ... that's new... I know quite a few guys who have that as a first name ..

Turd is just another word for wanker as far as I'm concerned, that's why I call those with 50,01% WR or more, who use the word tomato, greenturds, they're just wankers in the same manner a turd in an expensive beamer with Ray Ban sunglasses, reaking of Calvin Klein is like "Hey! Look at me in my new expensive car, with my cool sunglasses, I'm so great".

Four wankers negrepped me for this one, anyone else who feel like one?

The only bit I find offensive is the number of players who simply can't or won't think tactically on, yes, you've guessed it - SaTURDay!

I got home from work today to see that WG have changed my clan name and emblem from TURD (Terminally Unstable & Relatively Dangerous).

Is TURD really an offensive word or are WG living in the 1930's? Where I'm from, this day and age I hear a lot more offensive words than TURD come out of the mouths of 3 year old's.

I could understand if we had used actual swearing or foul language but......TURD........really?

Next they'll be banning clans with the name POOP or PLOP.

I think this game is slowly being aimed at the younger generations and soon CW is gonna be battled out by teams full of 5 year old's.

GJ WG!

Poll added. I want my TURD back!!

Reported for offensive language.

Ah, gotta love WG's idea of what constitutes offensive language...especially when its just an amusing Clan acronym.

I was thinking of founding one called N00BZ...but then realised I would likely remain the only member...

WG are brilliant with this pc carp. I've been done a couple of times by the non native english speaking mods on this forum, they really have no sense of humour.

How about using some rhyming slang - Eartha kitt, Donald Trump, Tom Kite? they may not get that.

[edited]van Dyke is probably too old to be playing WoT I guess. You never know though, but he would probably have been banned if he used his real name ...

My edit: The first name of one of the leading actors in the 60's Disney movie Mary Poppins was edited ... Really!?

How about this for a clan name "Strong Hard Indefatigable Team Ethos" , sounds like a winner to me.
