Ok guys, so here is a deal. I have this stronku MB and I have my old, but still good CPU Core2Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz. I would like to get one of the Xeon Quad Core like E5450 @ 3 GHz. The problem...will my mobo support it? On official site there is no data because Xeons are for 771 socket and my mobo has 775 but there is kinda sticker to mod 771 processors to get into 775 sockets :)

My mobo has FSB of 1066MHz. CPU has 1366...will it work?

IF it works your CPU will works underclocked at 1066 Mhz. You dont want that . So give a few more dollars/euros whatever and buy a MOBO with the right socket.

Give a budget and we can help you find new MB + CPU. You could sell your current ones to get some cash back (i always do so when upgrading).

Well, thats the point...Xeon is like 50E and I didnt want to use any more but I know if I change Mobo I have to get new Ram for it and then I will get new better processor witch is more expensive...but currently I cant afford that.

But, I did read that rev 2.0 and 3.3 arent that different and I can probably overclock mobo to work on FSB 1366, since rev 3.3 is actually officially supporting 1366.

Check on the manufacturer's site of Mobo the CPU support list and what revision for bios it needs. BUT if there are different sockets between CPU's, not even think to buy because it will not fit into socket.

My advice is to not invest anymore in 775 platform because its allready too old and what you have there is more than enough IMO. I had an E5200 cpu (2.5ghz if i remember corectly) and it was ok for the config with 4gb of ram and a 9800gt for gaming (pretty average gaming) and your E6600 should be more than enough, maybe a little OC to make it 3.0ghz, its not hard to do it.

Why not upgrade 775 platform? Just because the parts are not that cheap and compared to newer products, performance per $ is really low for 775 platform. Better save money, sell your current stuff and buy new ones ( i did the same and i did it well).

Cheers.
