I would like to ask owners: Spall Liner is a need. But what about Toolbox? And what about a fire and ammo explosions, have I to solve that with wet racks or premium fire extinguishers?

Thanks a lot in advance...

Toolbox needed as long weak or no repair skill on crew, at least in that case l would also recommend a premium rep kit(-10% rep time +repairs all modules at once), preventive maintenance needed, if you ain t got no posibility then at least premium fire extinguisher, no wet amorack needed, at least not if you have safe stowage on the crew because the turret is well armored and the german tanks have high hp amorack structure so, spall liner, shell rammer and improved ventilation if toolbox went out.
As a curiosity perhaps, l can t remember(or maybe l didn t saw) beeing ever amoracked in the Maus thou l have over 3500 battles already.

Spall liner gives a really small reduction to HE shells, i wouldn't recommend it as it does very little to protect you from arty.

Spall liner also protects your tank against ramming damage. Ok so what are you using as third module? Anyway in his place l wouldn t neglect a module wich offers a double protection. More of that, as an example, while a spall liner offers the most for the Maus, a camouflage net offers the less. That s because everybody complains about arty fire while driving a Maus and that for good reason, Maus is big and slow, at least that s the main reason why a spall liner works wonders on a Maus but it s not the only one.

Jake, instead Eagle Eye l would take Recon cause the view range is important, on the other hand the damaged modules could be also interesting to see but then again those enemyes you damaged should also been spoted by yourself, dunno realy how usefull the perk is, l never tested it. I think it s not so relyable cause even if you damage let s say his gun or amorack he can repair the module but l don t realy know exactly how this perk works. As example, how long are remaining the damaged modules displayed? If the enemy repairs them, do they disapear as damaged modules? If after that you re aiming somewhere else and then you re pointing him again, do those damaged modules apear again? Because of those questions and a few others l can t realy say nor if Eagle Eye is a usefull perk, either is a solala one, all l know, Recon is a very usefull skill.

Bluedragon777, l assume it was v2 but since 8.5 it s v1 because of the engine type, the progress goes sometimes wrong way...But l think yes, in the spirit of the game there is a progress, an optional, expensive, somehow restrictive and a small one, the engine doesn t catch fire more often, the fuel tank as usual doesn t burn at all and we can now fill our fuel tanks with 100, 105 octane gasoline for better maneuverability, (Turret traverse and higher acceleration, 5%-10%) thou there appears even stronger now, the problem of not having aboard all the consumables we may need and/or wish, but we do have more options. Everyone complained about the lack of maneuverability of the Maus, now they gave us a small bonus even if in a elegant manner.

Interesting. So i guess they could offer us upgrade options, because the Maus v1 and v2 had different engines and different turrets.

I have rammer, vent and spall liner. The spall liner is situational and does very little to protect the tank. However it brings more value to the table than the other options. This tank does not need any aids to aim faster the way I play it.

Stay in arty cover as much as possible and side scrape. Try to draw fire while my mates shoot the enemies up. Get the odd safe shot in. When close to death angle the body to protect the team.

I use rammer, vents and vertical stabilizer. Third slot is debatable i agree, but the decreased damage from ramming (and the very little damage decrease from HE shells) seems like a very marginal gain and also situational. With vertical stabilizer i know i can reliably fire when on the move (gunner with snap shot and driver with smooth ride increase this). It also helps in a one on one fight when you have to turn your turret. The vertical stabilizer is useful when you have to rotate your turret, aim, fire and rotate it away again.

EDIT: I may have to pull back my statement about the spall liner, i just read this topic about the upcoming changes in 8.6:

4) We change spall liners - small one provides 15 % protection as now, medium 20 %, large 25 %, superheavy 30 % - new spall liner for 80-90 t tanks.

The upcoming nerfs on penetration will make the Maus more popular. Proper angling and scraping will frustrate many players.

... once they're frustrated they'll just switch to gold which still has enough penetration to go through an angled Maus. Premium ammo consumption will increase, that's what'll probably end up happening.

Driving this tank has made me a cynic even though my stats with it aren't terribly bad in comparison to my overall stats.

"I use rammer, vents and vertical stabilizer."

This is atthe moment the best choice, you can make.

Spallliner at its current state is total useless for the maus. Getting 650 he dmg with Spallliner or 700 he dmg without? wow thanks for the protection... not.

Vertical stabilizer is what you really need, because it helps you to increase your survivalbility a lot, because you dont simply need to aim that long and can turn back your turret faster, giving the enemy less time to shoot your weakspots at the turret.

Also about 90% of the time i get hit by other tanks, not arty (who lets himself hit bei arty is doing something wrong ;))
95% of the time, i face other tanks, so that is, what i need modules for.

Well and about ramming with maus... no... not worth it.

But, with the next patch, spalliner will get a pretty big update, so lets see.

Eh, if you are up against a player that decides to RAM your Maus, you should have shot him to pieces long before he reaches you, since such a poor decision indicates a poor player imo.
Arty - cannot say I am bothered by it, and I play Maus quite a bit. It is about knowing where you have cover and how to get there.

Sorry, but imo Spall Liner is a waste. I use vent, rammer and stabilizer.
