Ramming is a good way of dealing damage while conserving ammo at the same time. See what changes it will undergo.

So...I understand less damage in total will be made from ramming? That is...we will see less rammings i suppose. Thats good I think. It looks silly with tanks trying to ram all the time...especially at low speeds.

I am just worried that this is a "nerf" to some "light" tanks that use ramming...like the Aufkl Panther...but then again...I am not sure....one must really see theese changes in action to see what it really means.

When will be 9.4 live release day? There is no info even from RU community, so this patch will be more than "bug fix update"?

The E-50M line is going to be happy about this!

Not so sure about that actually. From what I understand all of a sudden many tanks will become almost immune to ramming. Thus "ramming tanks" like the E-50 will be less usefull for that.

I wonder if this means that when I see someone come to ram me and I angle so I catch him on the tip of my tracks -> will my tracks eat all the damage?

I read it the other way around in that less damage will be taken by the rammer and more by the rammed providing it isn't head on? In which case it will encourage ramming rather than discourage it but as you say we won't know for sure til it's implemented.

Less damage if you hit tanks head on (front to front), more damage if you ram sides or back with your front is my guess. So most of the proper ramming damage will be actually increased.

Considering its armour... yes.

I guess this is ahead of them introducing Swedish tanks into the game, with airbags, side impact bars, crumple zones etc...

The way I read it, the current system uses these factors to calculate damage:

  • weight of the tanks
  • speed of the tanks at the time of the collision
  • presence of "Spall Liner" and "Controlled Impact"
  • thickness of the tank’s armour in "the point of damage application"
  • presence of side-skirts and/or spaced armour.

Whilst it doesn't explicitly state this, I think that what they mean is that these factors are also listed in order of importance.  So armour thickness is 4th most important.  However, after 9.4 will become "increased significantly" in its importance, though to what extent they don't specify.  I would guess that it is moving to be 2nd or maybe 3rd - and thus more of a factor than speed (potentially), spall liner and controlled impact.

For me, it clearly makes sense that a heavily armoured tank ramming a weakly armoured part of a tank should do more damage than if it hits a more heavily armoured part of the same tank - that's common sense.  But at the same time I don't want to see light tanks getting *just* clipped by a heavy and blowing up - there are so many accidental collisions during the start of a game that this will make driving light tanks a nightmare.

Sounds interesting though.  I might have to break out my KV-5, E50 and E50M and do some testing...  :-)

"...............OMG WG plz nerf those idiot tanks that keep ramming others... this destroys the game and any fun I'm trying to have......"

Really, now that I'm on my way to E50M they gonna change ramming mechanics?... I hope not as much as I fear it will be...

So, looking at it strictly in terms of credits, will this increase repair costs or decrease them due to high / low damage from ramming?......it's all about the money for me. I'm all for realism but if this results in crew deaths, major module damage, anything more so then before, then my conspiratorial hat says this will be good for wargaming but bad for us, haha.

Great change in ramming mechanics, now we can apply more ramming tactics, even a light tank can take out a X tier heavy at their weak spot...

Those complaining about ramming being nerfed had it backwards it's being buffed - if you ram people front on in their [edited]they'll get hurt more (mm for mm).

The figures aren't there yet tho we don't know how affective it is.

so does that mean team killing penalties for those scout idiots that like to crash into friendly heavy tanks at the start? my kv5 gets fined loads because scout morons bump into me. not my fault yet I get the bill.
