I enjoy building models, but this contest is quite mediocre.

So : It must be one of the Italeri WOT models, meaning the cheapest is the £25 chaffee. The italeri models offered as prizes are around the same - they are the 'unbranded' (non-wot) models, making them all around £25, so the entry price is about equal to that portion of the prize. The gold/premium/whatever prizes are then the entire 'payout' - even 2nd prize is less than the £15 3500g/30day package, with first prize being very fractionally better than the £23.50 Fury package.

So not including the time or paint/glue/etc required to build a reasonable model, you are trading a £25 entry for a 1/number of entries chance at a £50 payout.

If you have one of these models around and are building it anyway, this is probably great. But as a promotion to try to get people to do this when they otherwise wouldn't/wouldn't buy one of those models, this is pretty terrible.

Seriously, don't be fooled - if you want the fury package, it will cost you less than the cheapest of the models that you could use to enter this contest would cost you, without paint/brushes/glue/time.

tl;dr, minimum entry price : maximum reward is less than 1:2. By the time you are down to 5th place, it is about 1:1.1. Below 5th is a complete loss. The cheapest plastic cement you can get is about £2, meaning once you add that to the minimum model cost, the 5th place prize is down to 1:1.

Well I think it's a really good competition, it's great that WOT's is more than just a PC game and has some proper physical model kits to go with it, if it raises awareness of that then good.

And, I bet there's a lot of people been tempted to get an Italeri kit for the free rare prem tank, this competition on top may be all the extra incentive they need to go ahead & get one. Closing date late Jan, maybe will give the kids something to get for Christmas and have a go at building & painting while they're off school. Like in the olden days, when things were real and you did real things :-) And if you don't win the competition then so what, you'll still have your rare prem tank from the kit itself and a nice built & painted tank model to display.

Only thing I'd criticise is that at a glance there appears to be no age groups, which really isn't fair. Kids will have a hard time competing if practiced adult modelers get involved. They should add a below 16 age split.

I wonder how many "contest entries" will be scam attempts... not hard to find some built model photos on the Internet...

Personally, I have many built scale models, but all of them are aircraft... F-107 Ultra Sabre, B-58 Hustler, anyone? :)

Errr, no, I'm not interested about any possible contests on World of Warplanes page :P

I would consider myself a fairly skilled modeler. But i decided against competing for the following reason in addition to the critics stated above.

Italeri has a nasty tendency to regurgitate and rechew ancient crappy molds. They add a microscopic PE fret to the box or a new set of decals and then overcharge you for it.

Nope, ain't doing this one

It´s just poor judgement from WG. Horrible idea from start to finish.

Was this the unfortunate brainchild of a pointless lunch meeting between WG and Italeri staff? Like, we have to come up with something, how about this guys!

Sometimes i just wonder if Victor really had the best of luck when recruiting.

So I'm curious....How do you check if that model was really built by the guy claiming he did?

It would have been far better to have them put a newspaper in the photo (with the date) as well as a note with their forum user name. That way you'd have some verification of authenticity.

nice to see companies promoting model kit building, but italeri only....really?

the the 1st award is good, since its a bloody dragon tank in a italeri box, thus exceeding the usual italeri quality by miles.

but being limited to building the half stinker wot themed tanks is pretty bad, could you guys had the rule "only make tanks that are in wot" instead?

then people could build for example the newly released dragon panther ausf f with the 75mm l 100 gun or kitbash together a panzer 4 schmalturm by taking the turret from a panther ausf f with the 75mm l 70 gun and putting it on the hull of a dragon panzer 4 ausf j "last production" which has the mesh side skirt armor the in game panzer 4 schmalturm has.

tl dr you are really limiting the imagination of modellers here (just think what trouble we modellers have caused by using our imagination and kitbashing fake tanks together and putting them on the internet).

AFAIK Italeri + World of Tanks kits (they are required in this contest)  were released in 2014, and simple google search gave me thread with your pictures posted on some model forum... in 2013.:B
