Hi everyone. I would like to point out a few things I noticed about these two amazing tanks.

Specifically a few visual differences in the hull of both tanks, which to my understanding are the same.

1. There is less detail in the T49 suspension, you can't see the bolts.

2. There is no tail light in the T49 hull.

There are more small differences between them, implying they made two different hulls for the models in-game, or at least modified each one. Maybe because the T49 was a test bed for the new turret and gun there were no tail lights installed? Just a speculation.

Another thing I would like to point out, which concerns the in-game behavior of the tanks.

You can feel that the T49 accelerates and turns slower than the M41. In-game stats only show that the traverse speed is 56deg for M41 vs 44deg for T49.

This explains the slower turn rate.

But why does the T49 accelerates slower? Both tanks have the same top engine: 550hp. The T49 is lighter by 0.87 tons (23.5T for M41, 22.63T for T49).

That gives the T49 24.31hp/ton specific power vs the M41 23.41hp/t specific power.

The answer is of course terrain resistance. WG gave the T49 much higher terrain resistance, maybe to balance it out perhaps?

Terrain resistance: M41 vs T49

Hard terrain  0.48 vs 0.77 (~60% increase)

Ave. terrain  0.58 vs 0.96 (~65% increase)

Soft terrain  1.05 vs 1.63 (~55% increase)

And the way it affects actual specific power (hp/t) on terrain

Hard terrain 48.82 vs 31.68 (~35% decrease)

Ave. terrain 40.69 vs 25.35 (~38% decrease)

Soft terrain 22.19 vs 14.91 (~33% decrease)

As you can see, even though the T49 is lighter with the same engine its 33%-38% less powerful than the M41, acceleration wise.

Is this a balance thing or did the T49 suspension was somehow different than the M41's? I don't know, but it a good question

Hope you liked my analysis and please contribute your thoughts.

I got the soft stat data from http://www.tanknumbers.com/

Im really wondering why WG made t49 so much crappyer than m41, only good is that 152mm.

100% same tank, same track size and all so how it can have bigger ground resistance?

Because of that m41 is 100% better in scouting than t49 ever will be.

I guess the answer is game balance, but I'm not exactly sure what is being balanced here....

yes, what an awsome balance, gun that will miss even from 50m 50% of shots. do 0-300dmg to tanks nose, and dont got speed to circle or go behind on any tank.

In real life the T49 was an M41 hull with a special turret and gun, and the thing that probably explains the ground resistance being higher is that it is heavier than an M41.

do you even read?

that aside it's probably for balance reasons, imagine a Bulldog running around with that 152mm gun, it would be plain OP.
