Poll: How Would You Describe An "OP" Tank? (154 members have cast votes)

You have to complete 250 battle in order to participate this poll.

How Would YOU Describe The Term "OP" In Reference To Tanks?

  1. The tank itself is completely overpowered. It takes next-to-no brainpower to play the tank and is in urgent need of a "nerf". (88 votes [57.14%])

    Percentage of vote: 57.14%

  2. The tank is good, though the driver has some sense of how to play it. In this tank, I could probably do well, though to play it really well, it would take some skill on my part. (30 votes [19.48%])

    Percentage of vote: 19.48%

  3. Both the power of the tank and player skill are equal in playing it. The tank is okay, though having skill will take it a long way. (11 votes [7.14%])

    Percentage of vote: 7.14%

  4. The power of the tank has nothing to do with whether a tank is classed as being "OP". It is solely down to the player. A tank is only ever good if the player driving the thing is good; the term "OP" is irrelevant. (5 votes [3.25%])

    Percentage of vote: 3.25%

  5. I honestly couldn't care less, (^^). (10 votes [6.49%])

    Percentage of vote: 6.49%

  6. Other, (if so, please specify in a post of your own). (10 votes [6.49%])

    Percentage of vote: 6.49%

If You Answered With Either Options 1 or 2, What Tanks Would You Say Were Currently Over-Powered?

  1. I don't really know. (73 votes [47.40%])

    Percentage of vote: 47.40%

  2. Here's my suggestion(s), (if so, please specify your selected tank in a post). (81 votes [52.60%])

    Percentage of vote: 52.60%

Thank You For Taking The Time To Vote, I Really Appreciate It!

  1. No problem! (73 votes [48.99%])

    Percentage of vote: 48.99%

  2. Meh, it was alright, I guess. (31 votes [20.81%])

    Percentage of vote: 20.81%

  3. Hmff! (45 votes [30.20%])

    Percentage of vote: 30.20%

The problem is that WG use bulk Win Rates to define if a tanks is OP. Yet due to the skill distribution of player and the draw of OP tanks have to low skill players you can get a situation where the bulk win rate is biased down because so many noobs are choosing it because its a known OP tank. This results in WG saying the stats are fine when really all the players individually are doing better in the tank than they are in other tanks of the same tier. Now that is without taking into account that a players global win rate does not go up in a linear fashion with skill. So a player who averages 55% is vastly better than a 50% player and a 57% player is vastly better than a 55% player. That happens because in the end of the day you are only one tank out of 15 and it will get worse in 30v30 battles with even the best individual players struggling to have a massive impact on the outcome.

So the only real way to see if a tank is OP is to normalise the WR against the individual players WR in same tier vehicles minus the WR contribution of the tank being assessed.

The other issue is that they should reset players WR on tanks when they are make a significant balance adjustment. Say I have 2000 battles in a tank that was under powered and a 50% WR, they then over buff the tank resulting in it being OP..or the opposite way around. How long would it take for the bulk average WR to start to increase?

The best example of this behaviour from WG is the FV4202 to Action X swap...the FV4202 was my first tier 10 tank and so I was rubbish in it and for that matter it was also a rubbish tank I have a terrible WR in that tank. But for a totally unknown reason they did not re-zero the stats when they swapped it to the Action X so despite being very good in my Action X you would never know it looking at my win rate.

The reason that War gaming dont locate and deal with under-power / over powered vehicles is that they are not that good at stats from what I have seen. That is why some tanks are epically underpowered and don't get a buff for years and why someone live serB did not nerf the KV1s for 3 years after it was clearly OP.

That, or maybe they don't want to be good in stats, just to sell the game.

But WG employees probably don't have 10-30K battles each, so they don't know their own game that well... sounds weird, but it's true.

The best way to balance tanks would be setting up polls on forums for individual tanks, or groups of tanks.

For example, "Should the T29, T30 and T34 recieve a hull armor nerf?" ...and people would vote.

People on forums usually have a lot of battles and know the game very well, not talking about myself now, I'm talking especially about the 50K battles people, so we'd probably get a good, balanced game if WG actually listened  to the community.

An OP tank in my opinion, is one that if placed infront of any of its tier peers, win without much problems.

Some exambles:

Old Foch 155 ( seemingly WG cant resist fuxxing up and i bet you the new Foch will be even nastier broken than the old one).

Old Hellcat

Old kv1s

WT E-100

Old T110E5

Type 5 Heavy

Old T22.med aka rigger tank.

Obj.907

Current Maus

New batch of heavy premium tier 8s. (Defender/Libertè/t26e5/Crysler).

Skorpion G

Currently OP:

-Maus (ret@rd proof armour, awesome gun(handling) and DPM)

-Type4/5 (due to their broken armour and derp guns)

-Defender

-907

Cobra 6

So this is a necro thread from 2014.

But in the summer of 2017 I agree with Cobra 6's list of present OP vehicles.

As WG nerfed the T22-SR, they can nerf the 907 (no one paid cash for it).

Maus and Type4/5 can be nerfed as tech tree.

That leave the problem child the Defender/Object 252U.

OP is (in my opinion) a tank that has many strengths but no real weaknesses.

Patriot is without a doubt one of them, all other tanks that are supposedly OP do not fit the bill, i.e. Defender, Chrysler, Liberte.
