Edit: Here's the (basically, except for decals) finished model:

With decals:

Hello!

I've been building an unholy amount of tank models lately and set my sights on a GW Panther, but couldn't find any kits anywhere...so I decided to go the crazy route and try to build my own. My goal was to make it resemble WoT's GWP. I've never built any parts myself, only using the parts that the kits provide and making small edits to those, so this was a first for me because I had to cut my own parts from sheets of plastic.

But enough rambling, here's the pics of what I have so far! (Sorry for big pics)

Please tell me what you think, and tips from more experienced modelers are very welcome.

As a base I used a Trumpeter 15cm field artillery and a Tamiya Panther. The scale of both models is 1:35.

I assembled the gun first, and boy was it a pain. I lost some of the microscopic parts and decided to not include some others, since most of the cannon details won't be visible under the turret anyway.

The next step was cutting the top of the hull from the Panther so I could re-locate the turret to the back.

I then glued the gun to the bottom part of the turret that came with the Panther and started assembling the Panther parts like normal.

The kit came with the standard Panther exhaust pipes, but I didn't like that so I only used one of them, cut off the pipe and added a part of a leftover exhaust that I didn't use in my E25 kit.

Here I cut out and glued on the "collar". I used Gale Force plastic sheets that I picked up at my local tabletop store. I also had to extend the hull on both sides. (I'll admit that extension is rather crude...maybe I'll think of something to cover it up better.)

Finished the hull and added the gun. Now all that's left to do is building the turret! :)

Well I base all my models black, but incidentally that's actually gonna be the color it will be in the end since I want to make it look like the skin I have for mine:

looks promising

my suggestion would be add a dark grey paint over the black one and try to go for the "battleworn paint effect"

example

anyway good luck :playing:

Thanks. :) I was actually going for a rather factory-fresh look, so instead of wear I'm adding some dust/mud and stuff.

This is what it looks like at the moment: (sorry again for crappy picture quality)

I'm waiting for some decals I ordered, procrastinating on building the turret, and also working on the second track at the moment. The wheels will get some more dusting once the second track is on as well. Gun will also get some shading and the white marks before I put on the shield. I may add some more highlights overall as well. Right now it's only grey shading on black.

Alright kill me now, this was so painful. Turret is done, it's just too low down yet cause I'm still waiting for the supports to dry that will connect it to the turret ring and hold it up. I already added the welding seams. I left out the thin strip that would make the gun hole smaller and I think I'll leave it like that cause it fits better with the gun that way. I'll only add a bit on the upper side.

Will then shade the gun, base and shade the turret, and glue it on.

It's gonna look a bit less crappy once the color is on. :)

Yes, I'm fully aware it says L like left on the right side. Why do you think I'm so bad at tanking? :hiding:

Another pic with more detailed turret and painted details on the hull:

Also washed the track, still procrastinating on the second one, and waiting for the decals to arrive. The rings on the cannon look shabby, I'll probably fix them when my hands are less shaky.

It's almost finished though, the hardest part is done. :) I'm glad I managed to pull it off.

Alright, it's basically finished now. The only thing that's still missing is the decals, but god knows when they'll arrive.

I think I've got enough of kitbashing for a while now though. xD That was difficult as hell and a lot of work. It paid off though. I can only find one other GW Panther model on google, so I guess I built myself a rare one. :D

that looks really nice but it could do with a bit of very dark grey

Thanks! Yeah, as I looked at the finished model and then at the screenshot I realized that I could have made it even brighter. There is some grey there though, but it's easier to see irl since my camera is really bad. Some parts are almost light grey on the actual model. I may add some more though, not sure yet.

Nice work.

Where have you taken your measurements from, just photo research or blueprints?

Cheers

Thanks!

I took them from the ingame model, by taking screenshots from different angles and then figuring out the scale by comparing the hull's length with the length on the screenshots. A bit complicated, but it worked pretty well.

kk. standard.

At least you are not stuck with the interior :D I am just about smashing my model cause it is taking me so long to get it done, and the scratch building is killing me.

I can send you some literature about the GW if needed.

Btw, the hat is awesome^^
