So this is Ground war: tanks, and it's playable in your browser. I tried it out and turns out it has pretty much the same controls than World of Tanks. Wonder if this game has the same future than the infamous Facebook game, Project tank... Either way, Happy new year to you all!

EDIT: Spoilers not working :c

It's the first rule of knock off profit, you find something successful to steal from, copy it with as little effort as possible, create a fancy looking logo, release it and grab the profit before a law suit is filed.

It looks like WoT in older versions. Probably it was made for player with a computer that can't run WoT at least at low settings. WoT was the first multimplayer game with tanks and now it is copied by many others...because we can't negate the succes that WoT have.

AFAIK, "Project Tank" was its previous name some time ago. WG also had court case against it or something like that.

Pretty much this. It must be "Project Tank" because the game you found seems to use its assets, though I am not entirely sure on that.

There we go: http://www.polygon.com/2013/5/10/4317870/world-of-tanks-wargaming-sues-chinese-developer-project-tank

Block Quote

Project Tank, which operates under the name Tanks Ground War and plans to operate under the name Ground War Tanks, according to Wargaming's complaint, is "an unoriginal and disturbingly similar game directly based on the World of Tanks."

GWT is a browser game (no download neccessary) which can be played in facebook-"gamebox". It's an obvious copy of WoT but with some "improvements". :hiding:

Maps are generally better than in WoT.

There is no artillery. (yet)

Teams are smaller (normaly 6 or 7 tanks per side) and therefore gameplay is more dynamic with more movement and less camping.

Stats are generally not visible for other players, so there is less stat-patting and no XVM ...

You can win by capping but it takes approx twice as long. There is no reset though. You have to kill them.

There is no teamdammage.

There are night-battles.

There are weather-effects. (heavy rain, snowstorm, sandstorm)

Before you do, check their facebook-fanpage. There you will also find lots of players complaining.

Many suffer from really bad lags,

MM has it's issues and

there is talk about hacks and cheats (mostly from people who fail to understand the spotting system though, which is, surprise, surprise, almost identical to WoT but with even lower view-ranges.)

GWT is more pay to win than WoT; or maybe more precisely, it would be, if people did pay for such a game.

There are only like 10 maps so far, so it gets repetitive. (There is a 2nd,  "encounter-", version of every map though.)

Other differences: They are more greedy than WG, but you can get lots of stuff like small amounts of gold and a few days premium (called VIP) for free every month, if you log in regularly.

You can rent premium tanks for a week, and every new player gets a premium Sherman with  french autoloader-turret for one week.

With VIP you can form 5-player platoons. (Totally OP :teethhappy:  in a game with 7 tanks per side.)

There are "smoke-bombs".

One crew can drive all tanks of it's nation with no need for re-training.

Here in the German WoT forum there is a "frustration-therapie" thread with 47448 posts ...

GWT can be frustrating, but you just don't take it serious.

My best friends wife likes combative computer games (mostly fantasy but also insurgency among others). She watched him play 10000 games of WoT but never got interested herself, although WoT was installed on her computer.

Last week she started to play GWT with us ... (Scoring over 90% win rates with T18-platoons probably helped here. :))
