Is the chance of fire not reduced with the top engine? I suggest researching it simply for that alone, as the tank does appear to be prone to fires.

Really enjoying this tank though - average damage is higher than a lot of my T10's. This said, the gun definitely has its moments, quite a lot of shells appear to fly off in random directions.

Only got the engine to upgrade on my own AMX30 prot, which I do intend to do.

So far, really liking it.  Sure, it's got NO armour, it's not as nimble as a PTA, but otherwise it's a good tank.  Good gun (though I also get very strange misses and bounces (bounced on the side of a BatC on Sunday), better camo than most and doesn't get ammo racked like the PTA.  I'll definitely be keeping it unless it gets stuffed by the nerf bat.

Even with 100 battles in it, I average almost more damage in it than some of my tier 10s, both mediums and HTs. Currently, that sits at 2748 DPG with a 63% WR.

It certainly feels like the strongest tier 9 medium in the game, overall, right now. I think the E50 is better at a 'hard' carry, but the 30p allows better flexibility if you're able to not take too much damage and trade positively in return

Maybe it's my 1200+ battles with russian mediums, but i find the AMX30 a damn waste of money and xp.

Armour = zero. everything pens, everything damages modules or crew. Gun is really really horrible. Last game, 14 shots, fully aimed at E5 side, IS8 side, T44 lower plate, Jag 8.8 lower plate, T54 side, average 300~350m in distance, 1 penetration.

Transverse = horrible.

Got 2 skill crew w/th snapshot, off-road, got stab, GLD and rammer, and the goddamn thing just doesnt perform. Cant go near them because no armour. Cant shoot far because RNG goes everywhere.

Considering selling it and scrapping the will to get the 30B.

So far, I've been having a pretty miserable time in it. Though it did start with a 75% zero skill crew and it is being ground from (almost) stock.

Had done the other French med's so had the middle gun researched and thought it would hold up until the crew became ok and the rest of the tank was upgraded. Not really, after a couple of promising games it decided to become very random and stayed that way. For a fairly accurate gun with 230+ pen it just loved to completely miss or bounce off everything and anything. (front sides or rear)

The tank feels to me less effective than the Leo Pta during the grind but seems like it will be on par or better when fully done so I persist with it. Trading agility for dpm by the looks of things.

It really hurt me by being forced to mount the second turret after everything else of use. (was running around with a 355m view range for a while) so couldn't really use its speed to get positions and couldn't really snipe. Coupled with the paper armour (turret is good though) and a large fuel tank somewhere in the front the mortality rate was not good, On top of that a run of really bad teams (I know that sounds like and excuse but for example it took 9 games in a row yesterday to get my x3 most of those 15-2/3. 3 min wonders) It hasn't been much of a fun tank so far, more a hard slog.

Have the top gun now and its improving the performance and with 6th sense heading towards completion there is light at the end of the dark, dark tunnel. so I will keep going with it. I really like the PTA and do far better in it than i do with this thing. That I hope will change as the crew comes together and the top turret is finally in place.

Well what a difference a day makes.

Tank is now fully upgraded and it feels like a new vehicle, Finally seeing what it can do and its all good. View range is now a respectable 450m and the gun works as advertised unlike the middle one.

Had some better teams and several 3-4k damage games today.

Do you guys recommend spending the xp to get the second engine? Does it make any noticeable difference?

Well it weighs 700kg less and is less likely to catch fire. (Not that this is your main fire risk anyway)

In practice it seemed to add a little to the acceleration and it climbs hills better. So it makes a difference just not a huge one.

 I rather dislike that french 100mm gun - didn't particularly enjoy it on 50 100, nor AC 46... On this tank it was awful. That gun just doesn't work for me on any platform.

I agree though, that the 105mm gun is a whole different universe. It's perhaps not as good a sniper as the Leopards, but it works well.

Compared to WZ-132's "upgrade" it's an excellent deal! :trollface:

But seriously, do you really want to rush that badly to the 30B? 1-st proto is a very nice tank, and your crew can always use some extra experience.

Rage sold today

Fully upgraded, but 155k to go and frankly I will NOT deal with this shite anymore.

NO armour, doesn't ammo rack like PTA, but burns instead.

Supposedly has 260 pen, but in reality, feels like far less as it seems to bounce WAY more than say my PTA.  Also has lousy aim time and just the most weird misses, bearing in mind it's supposed accuracy.

For me, easily the WORST T9 medium I've played.

Nothing like as nimble as the PTA.

In short, it's a shite PTA, and most people hate that.

got my 2nd MoE in it last night finally.

i was stuck about 80% for ages and i play mine pretty well. I ended up playing 8 games in 3 man toon and averaging 5.8k WN8 over those 8 games that took me to 86% but the values you need are really, really high. I do think that a lot of higher skilled players are playing it.

I took the liberty of checking out damage values on Vbaddict across thier 9 meds and the results are surprising:

average damage dealt:

Lorr  = 1341

T-54 = 1348

Leo PTA = 1356

WZ-120 = 1368

T54E1 = 1492

AMX 30 =  1607

E 50 = 1640

As you can see the 30 Prot deals way more average damage than other tier 9 meds except the E50 (which is a Unicums weapon of choice)

...

Didn't have much choice as I had no intention of selling the amx 13-90 (my most played tank) and trashing its 6 skill crew by adding a stock 100% (at best) loader. I had also blown my free xp on skipping the Auk Panther to get to the RU-251 I think. As I don't trade free xp for gold I was forced to do a good old fashioned grind.

It ended up a capable tank but I don't play it much as I also have a Leo1 which is just better and more importantly more fun to play. Imo.

@Brown Ape

Yeah it seems it has pretty high thresholds for the marks so gj on the second.

Being fair, who but good players are mad enough to actually research and try out the 30, so I'd hazard a guess that it also has mainly fairly well skilled players.  The noobs gravitate towards the T54, or auto-suicide after a clip in the Lorraine.  Infact I'm amazed that the Lorry has even that average damage.

Its not as strong as e50, t54, m46, e75, but after those 4 its IMO the strongest t9 out there. It took me over 100 games to figure out how to play it. It has unique play style, it turns/accelerates as slow as is-7, it has huge bloom, no ability to snap shot, you need to aim fully or you miss, but is has punchy t10 gun with 260 apcr and 320 heat pen rounds, great accuracy and good mobility to get to the best map locations, spot/reallocate and it can bounce some of the lights unlike leo pta, doesn't have ammo rack with each hit issues as t9-10 leos, surprisingly doesn't burn that much (like ru meds), get bounces from higher pen/caliber guns of your angled UFP/mantlet from time to time. 30p is basically 30% more capable version of leo pta.

I don't quite understand what you mean by "strong", do you mean for carrying games? Whilst i think its a great tank it really needs support. This tank focuses on its gun, depression and speed. The ability to relocate and the laser gun is what makes this tank great.

I've played most tier 9s (not E50 yet) and its my preferred tank of choice at the moment (well E5 at the moment). Its the one tank that can exploit gaps in the enemy line and really punish the enemy team. Given it would lose a brawl against any other med 1v1 but then you're playing it wrong.

Anyway glad someone else enjoys it  - definetely not for newbies though

By strong in its state as compared to other vehicles of its tier, by overall comfort (gun handling, speed, whatever you prefer here) and ability to carry games minus drawbacks like paper armour, turning speed, acceleration, bad traverse, huge bloom. All together its not that bad still and at my personal place #5 of the listed above but place #2-3 if I take only fun driving it.

I understand your opinion, but have to say that I don't agree, see my comments above.  The closest tank to the AMX is the PTA.  Neither have armour, but the PTA has better mobility and a gun that feels in a different league, even though on paper, it looks very similar.

PTA sucks at gun handling, and its DPM is terrible. PTA is only a tool for snipe. You have to play waaaaaaaaaaay on the back to aim confortably and use your accuracy.

AMX30 have good gun handling, even while moving, have gun depression, viewrange, and best DPM among the high-penetration-gun in the tier 9. It's a good all-rounder which can be used in first or second line.

I find it as good as E-50 and T-54 (and I'm not using golds in either. Only have a handful of them on the T-54, but I'm not a brainless HEAT spammer). M46 is slighty inferior, and PTA is one of the "worst" tier 9 med with Lorry. And when I say "worst", I'm not saying PTA and Lorry sucks !

To be frank, the best comparison to the AMX30 is the T20. Its gameplay is very similar.

LOL at your Lorry comments.  Used well, it's a genuinely GOOD tank.  Problem is that most players only want to rush it for the BatC and frankly, haven't got a bloody clue.

Ref the AMX vs PTA.  Let's just say that I have kept a PTA in my garage and sold the AMX.  Voted with my garage...

Most tier 9 meds are better, tier wise, than their tier 10 counterpart. Except PTA and Lorry.

Yeah Lorry is a genuine good tank. I played it long ago (was my second tier 9), and I liked it, even though my stats with it were not great. It got buffed twice since. So it should be a good tank in my hands now. BUT it is still is one of the "worst" tier 9 meds.

I can't even understand what you find better with PTA than with AMX30. I mean, PTA sucks when played agressively, and the DPM is just awful. AMX30 is easier to handle, have better gun handling, better gun depression... Where is the PTA better, seriously ? Except the traverse which is not an advantage really worth to note.

AMX30 is a tier 9 T20, that's all. If you are good with the T20, then you'll do good with AMX30.
