Let's see

Block Quote

This Japanese Tier VIII medium tank is rather similar in appearance and handling to its standard counterpart, the STA-1. Even though it has weak armour, its main armament is more than capable of bringing the pain to the enemy team

Like I said in my review, no it isn't. 185mm pen is not enough to bring pain to anyone over tier 8 most of the times. Unless you want to spam premium ammo which beats the hole purpose of a premium vehicle which is to make money.

The soul reason why the STA-1 is one of the best mediums of it's tier is because it's got a really capable gun and gun depression. The STA-2 only has gun depression which means that with 185 pen you can ding shots at impressive angles downwards but that won't help you.

This tank should have had it's penetration buffed to at least 200 before it was released, possibly 210.

CDC is a good vehicle though and worth the 7500 gold!

In the past both these tanks would be in my garage by now but since you took away the only thing going for a stock T8 tank which is limited MM then I wont be putting them in my garage. We have to grind regular T8 tanks in T10, we can choose not to play them in inferior ones.

I have to disagree with all the hate.
I bought both last night and I have yet to a very bad game in either vehicle.
Out of the 8 or so games in both tanks I was averaging 2700 wn8 with my best game in the CDC vs tier 10s and picking up 3000 dmg and over 2000 spotting damage.
The camo is superb now the tds have had a view range nerf.
I can't wait to play them again.

Sta-2 granted I pulled top tier in EVERY game I played it and it really did shine, bouncing quite a lot and the dpm was phenomenal.

Not a bad word to say against them, fun tanks so I don't mind wg having a few quid.

I doubt 240 damage will make back the 4000-5000 cr a premium shell costs, so no, you won't. You'll make a loss on that shell or at least not as much profit as you should have made had that tank gotten a competent gun (for a premium tank without preferential matchmaking).

It works out for Type 59.

Of course it does because that one doesn't see tier 10 tanks like the STA-2 so it has to fire far less premium ammo.

Apples and oranges.

Why would you need to use gold. I haven't used any yet and have been fine penning side of tier 10 turrets and some lower plates, what's all the hullabaloo?
Totally agree that firing gold in a premium tanks negates the actual point of buying one in the first place.
Another 75k profit game in the CDC, seems like the income isn't too shabby either.

the 185mm penetration makes the STA2 one of the weaker tier 8 premium tanks without premium mm. will wait till its on discount before i buy one

Well I have over 600 battles in the T-34-3, with crap armour, no gun depression and 175 pen....I guess anything is better than that for me :)
Ps. Been pulled into many tier 10 battles with clan mates and just stayed back with it then pick the perfect ambush moment...love the shock on their faces!

So you say you have a good tank for hulldown peaking with decent mobility, increased profit and you still want to be able to pen Tier 10 from any side in 100% of cases? Otherwise you might meet Maus (or ST-I, IMO limited MM doesn't matter much) frontally and lose credits...

EDIT: Yup, surely it can't penetrate anything: http://www.vbaddict.net/statistics.php?tier=8&tanktype=2&nation=0&premium=0&modeid=0&team=0&battles=1000&groupby=0&fieldname=hits_pierced&server=

(sure, I know it's a small sample and mostly good players bought it first, but still - it tops accuracy too, only lacking in damage)

9.7

Oh and people:

These vehicles do not have limited MM

Be absolutely sure to test them (test server, maybe wait for 9.7) before you buy them.

CDC is better at hulldown peeking, has better mobility AND 212 penetration, nearly 30 more than the STA-2.

Because it has more penetration it is also more profitable to drive as you'll ding less and have to use less premium ammo.

If you want a good Japanese tier 8 tank play the STA-1, seriously. If you are a good player you'll probably make just as much with that vehicle, it has the same matchmaking but better mobility and an awesome gun with 218 pen with regular ammo. IS-3 frontally from any angle *no problem*.

Got 60% wins in the STA-1 playing solo and love that thing to death. The STA-2 will just be an underwhelming clone that you have to pay actual money for if you've ever played the STA-1.

I bought the CDC.  The gun is good enough, the mobility is good, the ammo rack is far pissen, all in all a good tank. That may struggle vs tier 10, but can and will pen tier 10;s if properly aimed. (this is the edit)

The STA-2 is NO TY.  That tank should by all means have pref mm.  Since it does not, no way jose do I buy it.

The Panther 88 is also a tank which has a nice gun, but kinda meh vs tier 10.  So no joy for me.

If there is a problem with MM due to pref mm premium tanks, then by all means feel free to re-instate battle tier 12.  Any1 who is grinding their tier 8's will be very happy.

Yeah, not paying 28€ for a Medium with no armor and 185mm pen that meets T10

Same like the Panther 88

I know it's good that you don't put pay2win tanks in the game, but they have to have SOME redeeming qualities to be attractive.
