I've been trying to do the light missions on the Crusader for a while now. Apparently, it's the worst choice I could have made lol. I'm not one for lights...

Anyway, I've chosen the Chaffee based on reviews. I still need to grind the M5 Stuart to get it. What I want to know is what kind of equipment would best work for these missions? Should I try maximizing view range by having Bino + Optics? Or should I choose just one and get Vents in place of the other? Either way, I'm definitely gonna use Camo Net. So what are your suggestions, tailored for the missions specifically?

I got 64% WR (after 78 battles, small sample size) with: Camo net, Coated optics, Binocs.

The gun aims reasonably fast, thus GLD is not required.

Yeah, my thoughts on the gun are the same. I just can't decide whether I want more manoevrability or view range.

Optics Rammer Vstab as before. Maybe drop Rammer for Vents if you are die hard view range. IDK why you would take camo net, if you're in a bush you're not going to get spotted. If you shoot from within view range then a camo net won't help you.

Chaffee likes active play, poking over ridges and taking cheeky pot shots. Camo net and binocs are antithesis to this but I understand I'm a bit like a broken record. Whatever works for you will do!

I use coated optics, binocs and vents on mine. I mainly try to spot for the team, but i have had some good games by joining the fight in lower tier matches w/o rammer or vert. stab.

Vents, V. Stab. and Optics for active gameplay. 390 view range is a bit of an overkill at tier 5 and the tank is pretty mobile and fast, so it can do good scouting without too much view range buffs. And the gun does its work for the most part, although it is not the strongest side of the Chaffee.

I would discourage a passive build, because it kills a good active scout.

Only just got mine, but I seem to be having fun with it :D

Vents, to me a must have for the extra crew performance

Binoculars, somebody made the argument that they kick in after only 3 seconds which isn't long, since them I've been fitting them in place of coated optics.

Gun rammer, it's got one heck of a gun for a titchy little thing, lapping a TD like a Dicker Max and putting a shot into it every few seconds is just too much fun to deny myself.

I've gone camo on all my crew, except the Commander who is working sixth sense.

So far I've sat in a bush and watched a Tiger I go boom from only 195 meters away from me, I had my finger over the run like hell button just in case, but he didn't see, when his ammo rack went it was quite satisfying, I got over 2k spotted damage in that game :D  I've also gone 'active' and had a couple of 4 kill games punching through a flank and taking down the arty hiding at the rear :)

i run vents, camo, binos on most of my scouttanks (more than 10).

on the chaffee that brought me 3 stars so cant be too bad.

i play the passive scouting role whenever possible and else the damagedealing/sniping role.

I am really struggling with this tank, I try to scout but they either see me before i see them, and detrack/kill me, or I find the enemy and they detrack/kill me time after time after time.

I have enhanced torsion bars and spall liner fitted in a vain attempt to fend off those detracking shots, but apparently, to no avail.

I try to use cover as much as I can when driving but still as soon as I pop out- detrack/dead.

Do the bars and liner actually help with detracking? or am I barking up the wrong tree?

My equipment load out is:

Improved Ventilation Class 1Improved Ventilation Class 1

-10% to loading timeMedium-Caliber Tank Gun Rammer
+10% to view range, up to a range of 500 mCoated Optics

Be advised that i play VERY aggressively so it might not work for you. I play mine all about the damage, which is why my MOE is currently around the 98% mark.

I got my 3rd mark by playing scout and fighting paper targets. All damage is counted for the Marks of Excellence - caused and support.

I like to play aggressive, but the constant detracks ruin this tank, for me.

To be honest, I don't normally play lights for this reason, I find them frustrating, which is a shame, as I really like the speed and maneouverability etc.

Perhaps I'll dump the bars and liner as i can't see it being a lot worse

Drop spall liner in any case, it does nothing to help you against trackings. Actually, spall liner in a tank with no armour does exactly nothing, unless you ram someone - and light spall liner will not do much good even then. And it is still heavy, hampering your mobility.

I have equipped my Chaffee with optics, vents and vstab, but I'm only going to give it a go in a few days, so my considerations are purely theoretical. The idea is that viewrange is good (optics), mobility and more viewrange is double good (vents), and now I have a choice between pump-out-more-shells (rammer) and get-a-shot-out-faster (vstab), and the latter seems more desirable if my main task is driving around and creating vision for my team. But who knows, maybe I'll reconsider something eventually.

i think being better at firing on the move is important so - vstabs

Chaffee has okay view range to begin with, but I'd still put some sort of equipment that improves view range on it. Which one, depends on you. In my opinion, Chaffee is a bit slow and sluggish so I like to sit in a bush more than to run around actively spotting. But there are maps on which it would be better to have optics, there are maps where you wish you had binos so it's your choice.

I'd take camo net if I didn't have camo on my crew, but I do so I'd take vents.

So for me it's: vstabs, vents and binocs OR optics.

The problem is the crew, playstyle and equipment steup.

At your level of LTing experience I recommend:

  • until 5x camo trainied on crew use vent, camo net, binos and very passive gameplay
  • afterwards: 4x camo and SS vent, v-stab, binos
  • take it easy and try to avoid being the first and only target

Successful agressive gameplay on LT requires a very good crew and some experience at the keyboard.

Also remember the LTing mantra: Do not get hit! Do not get hit! Do not get hit!

Have a look.

Spoiler
