The 57mm has a big advantage - extremely high rate of fire. Its so high it wins 1on1 against any tier 5 tank. In tier 5 battles this tank is superior. You go with some heavys, avoid being spoted flank enemy when good chance arises and game is decided. I liked to use mine as a suprise attack tank so I had only DPM oriented equipment, no optics. T-34 is probably the best tier 5 tank.

My nearly 950 avg direct damage proves that you underestimate the 57mm quite a lot ;)

Well, I'm always happy to take advice, so I've been giving the 57 mm another go.  One advantage, I noticed, is that it weighs a ton less than the 76 mm, so the tank does feel a bit zippier.

My win rate over a couple of dozen games this afternoon has been insane - something like 90%, and I'm not even a very good player.  The xTE stats say that the average damage for the T-34 is 275, so there must be some very bad T-34 players out there.

The average damage is low, because soviet branches are very popular with new players. They just go up and up, without knowing the game.

It's the same situation with T28 (great tank, crap stats), as it's on the way to KV-1 and IS-7.

Yeah.  My xTE stats on the T-28 are the best I have on any vehicle, despite only playing a couple of dozen games in it, and the widely-hated Lee isn't far behind.  Both are very under-rated if you go by the stats.  By contrast my xTE stats on the PzKw IIJ, widely regarded as a wonder tank, are abysmal, partly because it is mostly owned by players who are much better than I am, and partly because I try and minimise use of premium ammo - loading premium only on that thing will significantly improve the result but also cost 50k to 60k silver.

Something that's puzzling me is that I recently started grinding the Chinese line and am now on the Type T-34.  As far as I can see, this is almost identical to the T-34.  Yet I'm on a 42% win rate (38 battles) on the Type compared to 57% (124 battles) on the T-34.  As far as I can see, the tanks are almost identical, I've given them the same equipment, and both had 100% crews.  Is this pure fluke, or am I missing something?

The Chinese version has less gun depression, 5 degrees compared to the original tank's 8 degrees of gun depression. That surely has an effect, my T-34 also has a higher win ratio and damage dealt than the Type T-34 with identical setup. The other major difference is, of course, the fact while I sold the Chinese one, I will be keeping the Soviet T-34.

Could be.  I don't often go hull down in this one as the turret is nothing special and it usually seems better to keep moving; but I have noticed that the poor depression means trying to get at enemies on a reverse slope is frustrating as they will always get in the first shot and you can't retreat over the crest between shots.  Even so, the difference in both win rate and experience (444 vs 373) seems more than I would have expected.  Maybe a Tier V medium is the wrong choice to grind in weekend public matches!  Oh, well, only another 30k to get the Type 58 - although I see that one also has worse depression than the T-34-85.

ROFL this troll thread. T-34 is bloody amazing as expected of a soviet tank made in a post-soviet country. Op you should try playing Germans here before trashing the T-34

The only problem I have with T-34 is how the 57mm gun is so bloody amazing I can't bring myself to use the 76mm,

which I'd like to use as I'd generally prefer to have the "correct" weapons on my tanks. But... 10,5 vs 26 shots/min...

Why would the 76mm be "correct"? Some tanks have a choice of two or even three viable guns, some have clearly one gun that is the best. I guess there is a case for the 76mm, but hardly anyone uses it. Both dpm and accuracy favour the 57mm.

Sorry, should have said "historically correct".

Ah, okay, that's understandable. However, I once expressed doubt about the ZiS gun having ever seen use in a T-34, and was corrected: http://forum.worldoftanks.eu/index.php?/topic/465300-t-34-advice/page__st__20__pid__10223133#entry10223133

Bad armour

Bad guns

Poor speed

Rubbish matchmaking (never top tier).

Its the most OP tank for its tier I played in this game. Nothing more to add.

T-34 is one of the best t5 tanks.

Awesome gun (not so much on t6 tank, but on t5 it's great), good mobility and armor is as you'd expect from such a medium but I do bounces shots now and then.

Very good tank.

Imagine a tank with autoloader, 2 secs between loading each shell and infinite clip. Yes, thats the t-34. This tank is extremely OP in good hands, and should be real fun for green wn8 players also. If it's not, you are doing something wrong man.
