Were there ever any "non-linear" tank designs in WW2?

Generally speaking, you saw tanks getting bigger & faster, with suitably bigger guns to accompany the increases in turret & hull size. However, I'd be interested to know whether there were any tanks that had guns that were impractically large or out of place. Like a real life "derp gun". I know there are many technical implications to adding huge guns to small tanks, but surely someone, somewhere, had the idea, and got permission to experiment with it?

 

Then again maybe I'm wrong and nothing like this ever occurred.
