How does it compare to T-46 with 76mm?

I waited for 2 weeks before I played it.  I've run it a few times, and I really like it.  Of course, I like low tier derp tanks, like the Cruiser II with 3.7 in (94mm) gun.

It has good speed. paper armor.  Lousy view range, but you have to get in close, anyway.  I use vents, christie suspension, and a toolbox.

In my opinion, this is one of the better gift tanks.  I use it for LT crew training.

And bottom line, I just plain have fun in this tank.

I think its one of the best gift tanks for sure, for tier3 I feel its better then the cruiser 2 for sure.  However the cruiser can do 100 to 170 odd dmg to tier 5 heavies while the bt7 does like 4-7 lol

Agreed. It's a really nice gift tank, and I appriciate it. Well balanced gun without OP premshells (you gotta work hard against armoured targets, and some T4/T5 are big pita), great mobility, but below average view range (so it's not really possible to abuse other tanks too much).

I hope future gift tanks can follow this concept - just enough strong points to be fun, just enough drawbacks not to suck as vacum cleaner.

I found this balance failing on many other gift tanks:

  • Pz IId - a general failure (totall lack of strong points),
  • LTP lacks mobility and needs 10m VR buff up to 320m,
  • mk VIc - lacks speed, has no point (no brit LTs above T5)
  • Te-Ke - again, has no point, even if its pretty balanced

Wish I could test out mine even if it seems it will be garbage.

But since I have more then full baracks thanks to WG fun modes crews I can't transfer crew from M-25.

First world problems

A good tank for sure, while maybe not great. In tier 3 it's hilarious, but like nearly every tier 3, not much use against tier 5s. But it still has excellent mobility, so you can active scout and tease the higher tiers to allow others to do damage. Does 4 dmg to the front of a Hetzer and 160 to the side of a Covenanter... But with all this speed it's really fun to play anyway. Giving it premium shells would make it really strong, too strong for a gift tank in my opinion.

Well.. It's not really their fault (unlike with the SU-76i)... Even if they didn't advertised that much about the fact it would be given, it was on the News portal and players had several days to log in to get it. :/ Maybe you even received a mail about the Anniversary specials, like me.

However, I understand you are pissed off. Did you missed the news about its release date or were you just unable to login in time?

In reality, the BT-7 art. is another typical gift tank - bad. It may accelerate fast and have a howitzer, but the maximum speed is limited, hull traverse is rather low, view range is none, the Pz II has more base view range than the radio range of the BT. Even the howitzer has its own serious problems - shells have a weak slash and accuracy is the worse from all tier 3 howitzers. And all thous problems make the tank less useful than the regular BT-7 in tier 5.

Now, the tank does have its moments and fun factor, but the problems are too much for me to enjoy the tank as much as I want to. A bigger splash, some more view and radio range or maybe some more mobility and the tank would become an awesome machine and remain somewhat useful in tier 5, or the tank to have limited MM like the LTP. To some extend, I find the BT-7 art. to be a T49 in tier 3. Still, I will be keeping it - the howitzer is a howitzer.

One thing is sure: BT-7 arty is a noob-proof tank. Looks like it is one of the most numerous tanks in T3 battles. The reason seems clear: even most incompetent drivers can destroy enemy tanks with one shot, which is of course ecstasic. .

It is only (noob)-popular. Probably due to fun factor (as you mentioned, occasional derp kills are fun) and possiblity to train soviet stronk hovermed-technology LTs.

It's not really noob-proof, just look how the average players do in it.

Most of those BT-7a are pretty useless, if you take time to check the after battle report. Which isn't great performance, for a premium vehicle.

According to WOT-NEWS EU server statistics, It's a middle of the road T3 LT. So, pretty mediocre.

Noob proof is something like T127, 2J or pzB2 (if we talk about low tier premium tanks).

Or think about Pz 1c - somewhat similiar mobility, but vastly superior gun (gun is accurate and extremely deadly due to ridiculous clip potential). This one is noob-proof. BT-7a requires some finess to give decent results, yolo derping won't cut in.

I aced it at first game and never touched it again (it is fun but I needed to time for grinding other tanks and I like doing something else than sealclubbing).

It's the best low tier tank WG ever offered.

I nowadays use it for my first couple games, as it gets me going and if I suck (well, it's tier 3), no big loss.

Got bored with the Cent AX mission, so took this little beast to battles. First fight 9 kills, then 5, 4 kill battles. Earned the medal for 3 artillery kills. Nice.

Took this out for spin today, and had a very decent game: http://wotreplays.co...-bt-7_artillery

As a bonus I knocked out the entire crew of the Chinese Chi-Ha with a single shot:

I have been wanting this tank for a long time. Today it was available in the shop (in a bundle with a month of premium time), for the first time. I purchased it and I now get to play with this beasty. Let's see how it goes.

Who plays tier 3 anyway? Don't get me wrong, and gift is nice ofc, but I didn't touch my T7, LTP, Pz2D and such for months... play 1-2 rounds once they come in garage and that's it.

Player who are new to the game, it you can find any.
