Hi fellow tankers,

I've recently rebought the amx 12T, mate started playing one and I wanted to go back to playing the frensh autoloaders myself aswell.

Currently my crew is 100% , started training the 6th sense for command, and camo on rest of the crew.

The tank is fully upgraded and has summer camo.

What is your gear on the amx 12t?

I only have vents on it (since they we're cheap and add a bit of everything)

Thinking about saving up for coated optics, currently my viewrange is 388m , so with optics it would be around 425m?

I don't know if its worth it buying binoc's? since: "You can never spot a vehicle further away than 445m, the game engine performs no spotting checks past this boundary."

found at: http://wiki.wargamin...Camouflage_(WoT)'' .. soo, bino's will never allow me to spot further than 445m?

I'm thinking about this setup:

  • - vents (already have those, since they we're cheap and add a bit of everything for the crew)
  • - coated optics
  • - camonet

I think the main goal is supporting/spotting in the beginning of the game, and finishing off crippled targets and tanks that are alone in the endphase of the game?

Any other tips for playing and spotting in this tank/Good ways of supporting and guides/places for spotting?

Thanks in advance  ;)

Viewrange over 445m still helps. 445m is not actually your viewrange cap, it's just the detection cap. Since enemy camo reduces your viewrange in determining your ability to spot them, more is always better. Example:

You have 450m viewrange. Enemy tank has 10% camo. He 'reduces' your effective viewrange to 405m.

If you had 500m viewrange, the effective viewrange would be 450m. You cannot spot at 450m, but the moment he crosses the 445m border he will be spotted.

In practice many tanks will have over 10% or even 20% camo, due to Camouflage crew skill and camo paint.

Anyway, best equipment setup is Vents, GLD and Optics. Binoculars only really in combo with Camouflage Net, and even then only if you want to do a mission that requires lots of spotting damage. Generally you'll want to do active spotting and even opportunity shots, which Optics and GLD are suited for.

Ok, thanks for the advice, didn't knew that.

I'll wait how the games go and save up some credits while doing so for the GLD and c.optics .. Optics > GLD? (For spotting),or buy them in the opposite order? (GLD for the faster aim, since it doesn't aim really fast imo)

I use full spotting setup because I switch often between active and passive scouting. That means net, optics and binos. Damage is not my main task, but nevertheless I am working on my 3rd MoE:justwait:

Evening,

I find coated optics and vents works well. I just installed a GLD yesterday and it makes a huge difference in the aim time, I think it's worth it for random games.

The biggest issue with the 12t is that it ends up in tier 9 random battles ... pretty much any  tier 8 and 9 vehicle will kill you with one shot, so you have to go all out for stealth just to survive the first 5 minutes (the only exceptions to the one-shot death seem to be premium tanks - lol).

Forget about it having a gun unless you're lucky enough to get a tier 6 battle - try to think of it like an arty spotter team in a jeep or land rover  don't get seen and don't reveal yourself.

Spotting is its main task, that´s right. That is why I still use binocs and optics. But the gun is not useless, even against T9. You can damage most enemies at T9 in the sides or back. You just have to be very carefull about your timing and surroundings. During late game - then you usually know how much enemies are left and where they are - you can easily dish out 500+ damage in one clip. My avarage is at 530 per game (3rd MoE finally done). Top damage was ca. 2,8K and that was a T8 game IIRC. So you can do quite some harm, the secret is just to be carefull and don´t get hit. :)

I only got the AMX12 recently and use it as a passive scout / sniper right now with Camonet, binos and vents.  Eila's GLD/optics suggestion might be something I will try.

Net, Vents, Binocs, find a nice bush and passive scout. My 12t setup and playstyle in a nutshell so far.

It's even more of an opportunist than the ELC. What you want to do is get into a position, unload a clip, and get out. However, ammo is scarce at 30 shells total, be carefull with it. The 12t has bad mobility for a light and awfull gun handling, but actually has better penetration than the T37's autoloader, and it has great camo.

With it's camo, burst potential and good penetration it becomes dangerous late-game when the field is less crowded and flanking becomes easier, even in city maps.

i have to say i loathed this tank at first.

with the shitty tier 3 radio, that poor stock engine and shitty manoeuvrability i couldn't even scout properly so for the first ~40 games until i managed to unlock everything it was horrible and almost ragesold it and went back to the elc.

then the tank changed. i had better acceleration (still shitty manoeuvrability), i had a much better gun and i could finally start to be helpful to my team. but i still didn't quite like the tank. it wasn't good for active scouting as it bleeds speed when turning, the gun depression/elevation sucks and the module damage you take is off the charts.

however for the last 30-40 battles something clicked and i started playing better and better. i think the key aspect for this tank is to be patient. by all means, scout, but do it passively and don't take unnecessary risks. if you manage to survive for the first few minutes you're golden. once all flanks have started fighting it's your time to shine. go around the enemies, unload a clip in their backs and vanish. your pen is enough for all tanks you'll encounter (shooting backs and sides) and your alpha is so small most of them will ignore you, until they realise you're an autoloader and by the time they do that you've finished unloading and ran away.

i'm an absolutely average player and yet on the amx 12t i'm at 88.7% on my way to the final mark of excellence and i have days like this:

it's a tank that grew on me with every battle i played and i really did not expect that.

only issue i have is the really really low ammo count. 30 shells is a very small amount. i used to carry a clip of HE but i gave it up cause i had quite a few battles where i ended up firing HE at tier 9s :) so now i carry 24AP and 6 APCR and still have games where i run out of ammo despite hitting 3/4 of my shots. so i have to be even more careful of the shots i take and make each shell count.

i would have loved to have 2 more clips just to feel more at ease in the end game and afford some blind shots every now and then. because of the really low amount of ammo, it's carry potential is greatly diminished. it could have had some spectacular end games if it had more ammo.

all that being said i'm really excited thinking about the 13-90. that looks like a great tank compared to the 12t, however before that i need to get through the 13-75 and that doesn't look like a fun grind at all.

I am loving this little beast its a really powerfull ambush tank and anti scout.. no other tier 6 scout can compare in my opinion its got the camo factor, the penetration is pretty good and the damage output is more than enough. currently sitting at 700 assist and 1400 dpg. 2 gold clips carried because well... why not!? I voted vents, optics and camo net but when I have the funds ill probably drop camo net for binocs.

AMX 12 t    9/14    1 413    5 682 (100) onwards and upwards!

like the potential of this tank but I'm honestly having a mare in it. 35% win rate!!! My worst tank ever, by far!!!!

It's far from perfect but I like the camo and the gun can deal out damage at lower tiers. Struggles at higher tiers. View range is good. But wow it's being cruel to me. Useless teams all the time.

If I get a good spotting position there's promise otherwise I often find myself driving round trying to find a decent position to get a shot or two at enemies. If they're head on don't bother, try somewhere else.

I finally worked out the best ( for me ) way to play this tank , as a passive scout , and a secondary tank destroyer ( snipe at distance ) - I got 58% win rate and 2 Moe using the AMX12t

I found vents , binoculars and camo net was the best set-up , increase your view range is essential , the tank is also slow and sluggish to turn and build up speed at first

so plan your exit strategy and the route you plan ( and notify your allies ) , before the battle / preparation is key in the amx 12t

if it looks like the enemy will over-run you , take action early to re-locate as you as slow as hell to move at first -

another thing that was expensive , but really helped was 105 octane oil , which made the tank much more faster and responsive -

finally , if you have the crew skills , make your 2nd skill , 100% camouflage across the entire 3 man crew , camo training is essential to stop you being more easily spotted

This tank is shite. The ELC is MILES better.

I have bought it twice and sold it twice.ELC is more mobile, smaller and the gun is better.

Still struggling with this one. Time for a real rethink on how I'm playing it and what to do differently to be honest.

One mistake I've certainly made is not having a crew trained with at least one skill / perk at 100%. That's one problem coming off the ELC.

Another issue with this tank is the amount of XP needed to elite it. Over 120k of XP needed to release the 13 90 and the linked ARTY. Such a long long grind.

I've only played 40 games and I don't plan on keeping my 12t, so the equipment is limited to vents, binocs and camo net. So far win rate is 70%, I usually start with some bush scouting before moving to a more aggressive approach later. A quick dive out at someone who is isolated or already engaged then back to safety for reloading. In a city map I hide for a bit and then go aggressive. Commander has 6th sense and the others have camo at 100%.

Average damage so far is ~730 with ~515 assist damage. Spotting damage would be higher if teams (a) would actually shoot at targets I find and (b) were able to aim. ;)
