I have been on the soviet mediums path for a while and I have fully upgraded the T34 but im wondering there are 4 tanks on the tech tree and I can't decide which to get im in a struggle between the T34-85 and the SU-85 help:(

Edit 1: I have come to the conclusion after months of research and strategising, I will make the grind for the T-34-85 :)

Edit 2: This comes late but even with its first 85mm gun I fell in love with this tank, and actually look forward to eliteing it this time. Im already on my way to the 85mm D5T 85BM

Find out which is the best for you yourself, nobody can tell how you would perform with one of them.

T-34-85 is probably one of the best tier 6 meds there is. I really like it!!

A bit of advice: first get 6th sense on your T-34 commander before transferring the crew. It makes a lot of difference.

Good luck!!

T-34-85 is an all-round strong tank. It doesn't really have anything where it is the best, except maybe alpha damage, but it's main selling point is that it has no real weaknesses. It's decent to good in every category I can think of.

This, mixed with alpha it is probably one of the strongest, most versitatile tier 6 in the game. Despite popular believe HTs of the tier are not godlike, meds are, and T-34-85 is a great contender for top spot.

I've kept mine and even though I have Rudy I have no intention of selling it, why not play 2 great tanks...

I do hope this time they will keep their word and never again sell Berlin tanks nor Rudy, but knowing WG they will milk them from time to time...

I bought rudy and its the same as T-34-85. its a AMAZIN tank. its all around awesome in every aspect. beats all tier 6 medium tanks in game, on par with cromwell maybe.

Yeap, as others have said, it's one of the best (if not the best) tier 6 meds. It does everything well and sucks at nothing, the gun is great and even the armor bounces some shells. One of my favourite vehicles in the game. Get it!

What's the difference getting it before transferring? I just finished grinding T-34-85 from T-34 and transferred and retrained the crew to 81 % (I haven't played it yet).

After I get crew to 100 % I'm thinking 6th sense to commander and repair to the rest. Is this ok? What about equipments?

Getting 6th sense is going to take me about 6 months or more so I have to be patient.

Playing an Elited tank earns you skills faster since they get the Accelerated Crew Training option. A non-upgraded tank obviously doesn't, plus you have to deal with a stock grind (= worse tank) and possible Experience loss from retraining your crew.

Okay, so you are now in T-34-85 with an 81% crew, as I understand. It will be a little tough in the beginning, but okay.

The first thing I did was to spend some free xp to unlock the first 85mm gun (S-53). It has bad aim time with the stock turret, but is otherwise okay (the Chinese replica known as Type 58 only gets this gun). Then I went turret, tracks, engine, engine, top gun. I would not touch the howitzer, one-shotting lower tiers may look fun but that gun is impotent against the enemies that you really should harass. If you don't want to spend free xp and have the howitzer already researched, then of course, use it, it is better than the stock gun.

Equipment. My T-34-85, with top configuration, goes optics+rammer+vents. You may like binoculars instead of optics, and while researching the top turret, it is probably good idea to use GLD instead of vents because the aim time is going to drive you crazy otherwise.

Skills, once you make it there. We have an everlasting little-endian vs big-endian fight as to  whether one should prefer repairs or camo in a medium tank. I am from the camo party (except for Americans); repair is definitely good, sixth sense, situational awareness, off-road driving, safe stowage (somehow I feel that T-34-85 loses its ammorack much more often than T-34), snapshot - plenty and plenty of useful skills for this universal medium :)

A little update:

This is very nice tonk indeed. Even a noob like me (WN8 <400) :child: has managed to get fine results with this. Top of the cake last weekend happened this: http://wotreplays.eu/site/2415547#  :medal:

I don't have any skills yet but I'm getting there (about 50 % to go). I'm not thinking of getting next tier tank. Those battles are way too much for me. Just concentrating to get some skills/perks and I hope I get to research those upcoming tanks so I get to elite this one.

Take it from someone who's fallen in love with this tank, it's one of the best in the game. Proof that I'm not some scrub talking through his arse is below.
