I was about to upload this as a reply to a topic about a new film release but the thread was deleted before I could post this as there was potential for glorifying, or even defending, the more unscrupulous aspects of the 2nd WW German war machine. Hopefully, this doesn't overstep the mark but if nothing else, it is historically interesting.

Although I'm British I now live in mid France about an hour away from Oradour-Sur-Glane and have visited it several times when having guests over from the UK. It really is an extraordinary memorial of the atrocities that mankind inflicts on itself. There is a pretty comprehensive visitor centre and you can walk around with an audio guide available in numerous languages. If ever you find yourself nearby it really is worthwhile spending a few hours taking it in. Seeing first hand the bullet holes in the walls, the Church where women and children were massacred, the Doctor's car and the other remnants of a horrific day frozen in time will make you think not only about what happened and the people involved (both sides of the guns) but will almost certainly have you thinking about yourself and what we continue to do to each other.

As my mother lives between Limoges and Brive, I have been a couple of times.  Very moving and very sad.  It does make me wonder about the people who like to dress in Nazi gear, whether as re-enactors or for other reasons.
