I've been toying with arty and I've enjoyed a number of the early tiers of American SPGs. However, upon landing on the M41 HMC, my fun is starting to grind to a halt. I now need some advice with this tank, because I want to move beyond it quick as I can.

The tanks biggest flaws are its extremely lengthy aim time, load time, and legendary inaccuracy. In a straight line, it's fairly fast, the gun packs a helluva punch, and it has a long range.

In terms of balance, on paper it looks fine. In practice, the M41 is as frustrating as they come! On a stationary target, I can miss wildly! The tank is highly subject to the RNG system, and I sometimes question whether it's worth the 30 seconds for the gun to fully aim at a target. The shots always seem to soar over the target, and my one GOOD game was on Malinovka- firing UP onto the hill from afar.

My crew is 86% (commander 78%). I ran myself broke during the recent specials so I can't afford a gun laying drive or shell rammer. I'm hoping someone has uncovered the secret that makes this tank fun to drive. I had troubles with the Bishop, but some conversation uncovered it's secret methods, and it became a joy to play. I'm hoping for the same here.

Well that's the way it goes with most higher tiers arties... playing higher SPGs is often 50% patience and 50% luck...

Other than moving in closer to your targets to make the target bigger, the only advice I can give is to move on to the M44 as soon as possible.

You are running a tier 5 arty with a virtually 75% crew, no rammer, or gld. I am afraid you have given yourself almost every disadvantage possible.

My advice is to grind the crew up to 100% before you move on to tier 6, and get a gld and rammer as soon as you can, and pay the 20 gold to demount them and move them up.

Good luck.

This, +1,d for reminding me of these painful truths.

It is so bad at 76% it's almost not worth it, the grind is sooo horrendous. Just stick with it, grind and grind some more, earn EXP 76 points per game.....

But how else to get the M44........

It's tough kid, but it's life....

M41 is bad, M44 is much better. I had MUCH better stats in M44 than M41. Best US SPGs are the M7 Priest and M44. I also tried M12 but i hated it, it had a very weird shell arc because of the long cannon.

After I posted this, I remembered that I was doing that with the Bishop out of necessity (short range). I found it was one of the more accurate SPGs I've driven. So I had a hunch that SPG's will become more accurate as they get closer. I don't know why I forgot that when I started over on the American line, but I tried it out. It hasn't solved all my problems (the M41 has a really low firing arc), but it IS improving matters. The reload and aim time are still maddening, but at least it appears I can improve accuracy SOME by virtue of being closer. I'll be moving on to the next SPG quick as I can.

I think SPGs require a 100% crew and a gun lay drive, rammer is good too, a few will take vents also good.

I try to find the SPGs with the widest firing arc so M44 is good for that and the GW panther.

Worst in this respect are some of the Soviet SPGs with as little as 8 degreees arc now that I fiond painful..

British probably have the best rof of those I have played and the pretty accurate too

Well, I won't argue that point. I agree too. But I'm not putting down gold on a tier V crew. I paid what was available to get the best I could- available with credits, that is. The rest will come with time.

the M44 will make you forget the M41, and then when you get to the m43 and m55 you will be really happy.  M44, M43, and M55 are some of the best artys in the game regardless of tier....in my opinion of course.

Glad you are missing all your shots

Arty is overpowered and is just luck based.

I don't agree on that. Artillery is just as tried and tested, as any other type in the game. -If not even more, because of those hating the type of vehicle, due to their own lag of experience dealing with arty in battle.
