Hello people.Yesterday i got myself a nice M40/M43.What i saw was that it's accuracy was FAR lower than that of M12'S.And trust me i know how to aim with an artillery, since its the only thing i play. Also i wanted to ask,if someone of you guys plays that tank, what gun you recommend,155'' or 8 inch? I tried them both i feel much better with 155''.

I liked the 8-inch. going from 155 do 8-inch was a nice moment, especially when I did that on m53/m55 (for some reason you have to grind 8-inch again) - it makes a HUGE difference when hitting hard armored tanks like e100.

the accuracy was poor - but I was doing s-51 at the same time as m40/m43, so I had comparision to something even worse - it made m40/m43 feel accurate.

I really can't stop playing arty. The main reason i started playing arty was my poor pc specs. In arty you just have to SHIFT and click, and thats pretty much it.No FPS needed or what so ever.Anyways,i would appreciate it if more people answered !Thanks for your replies though

Do you have a 100% crew in your m40/m43? What skills do you have and at what percentage?

I had a 36.59% hit ratio after 400 battles in my m12 and have a 36.09% hit ratio after 1121 battles in the m43.  So, for me the accuracy is basically the same.  Most of my battles have been as the m43 (with the 8 inch howitzer).  The 8 inch gun has about 50% more splash radius which, in my opinion and experience, more than makes up for the 19% or so reduction in accuracy.  Plus the damage output per battle of my m43 is 1311 compared to my m12's average of 978.

The M43 is, in my opinion, the best tier VIII arty and one of the best in the entire game.  Give it some time, I am sure it will come around and win you over.

So far my entire crew is at 80%.I have no gold to train them,so i have to go with the traditional way. From what you said,i guess the 8 inch will be far better when my crew is at 100% with a skill or two and have bought the medium calliber arty shell rammer

You are correct.  I do not think that it is fair to judge any vehicle until you have at least a 100% crew in it.  Hang in there with it, it will please you in the end.

Crew 100% + brothers in arms give 40 sec. reload. Aimtime with GLD installed is pathetic, i don't know if that piece of equipment even has any influence.

90% of battles look like this: I aim somewhere, some tank gets spotted, i move to place aim circle over it and wait and wait and wait until it fully closes, but then that tank disappears. I wait and wait but some other tanks show up spotted. I am still waiting for first target. Other targets are spotted for like 20 secs, so I move my aim over them, and wait until it's fully aimed. They disappear. First target  shows up again, but I'm waiting to get other one now, I know I will lose aim if I move over it. Nothing happens. I decide to move aim circle over first target again. I aim and shoot, he moves after sitting still for 30 seconds, right after my shot. I detrack him. Battle goes on and my team is raped. I move next to some wall and fire a HE into it from 1cm range trying to kill myself. I scream loudly and smash mouse on my keyboard. My wife protests, so I keep smashing mouse on her head. She rips the keyboard and knock me down with it. We calm down, I get back to WoT and play a medium and enjoy.

Other 10% I manage to hit that first tank and oneshot it. Fun time. All other shots end up detracking other targets but what the hell...

M40/43 is World of Agony 90% of the time, and World of Randomness another 10%. I truly hate that arty, even I liked the previous one.

I used to play arty a lot for the same reasons, 6fps was not ideal for anything but arty where shift made it go up to 24fps =]

The 203mm is by far the better choice, when you think about it, the bigger splash makes up for the lack of accuracy.

A 100% crew will make all the difference, trust me =]

I would also recommend cola, the reload is about 38s with BIA, rammer and cola with 100% crew. It also increases the accuracy and aim time a little.

Give the 203mm another chance =]

It was good, but no more. M53/55 is even worse.

I have BIA + coca cola and a waste of time.

But it's Wargaming, all the good tanks destroyed.

i must admit i'm enjoying the m40/m43 more with the 8" howitzer, managed to one-shot a 50B last night...

the initial grind was with an experienced crew (on 3rd skill), except the radio guy who was at 80% of his 1st skill. I used gold to retrain the commander & left the other guys at 80% & used PR's to grind with in every game so far.

also had to buy a large rammer.... 600k creds (OUCH!!) & now reload is around 40s along with BIA.

overall it does decent damage & feels fairly accurate, but you need to let the sights settle for half a second after fully aiming before firing.

only 97k xp left to grind.....

:)

settle the sights for half a second? it takes 10 secs for my 8inch to "settle" or do U all shoot when the aim covers all the screen?

oh, finished the grind, I found it one of the better tier 8 arties, If you like this one, you'll fall in love with the M53/M55.. both guns are excellent.

Holy crap this thing boring to play. I though the Tortoise was awful, but this is close.

I mean if WG is dropping the 183 out of the game because of 30 sec reload time, why would you keep arties with like 50 sec reload. On average you get three shots and by then the game is basically decided. Considering the accuracy, you get basically one shot worth of impact on the result. Way to prove your skill. LOL

If the personal missions only could exclude the SPG all together, would be better for everyone.

Good vehicle, one of those that I'm tempted to keep even though I have ground through it.

Good ROF, accurate, mobile etc.
