Hey guys,

I'm starting to consider upgrading my computer. However I am no expert on PC hardware, and was hoping to maybe find some advice from the community on what to do.

So maybe someone could help me identify a bottleneck on my PC, and a example of a good upgrade then.
However since Iam living in a country which a crapcurrency (South Africa) I wont be able to afford lets say a Titan Z...which costs here as much as a kidney :(...and since Iam a student I'm kind of on a tight budget all the time.

So these are my current specs:
Intel®_Core™_i5-4460

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650

4GB DDR3 RAM

Motherboard M85M-G

Since I dont play very high level games (WoT/FSX (with quite a few 3rd party mods)/and some stratagy games or a FPS every now and then) would it even make sense to upgrade at this point?

I would be very thankful on peoples advice.

Thank you.

Video card GTX 670 / GTX 760  - if your PSU can handle it.

and another 4 GB Ram if you have Windows on 64bit

Thanks guys for the fast responses.
Seems like another 4gb of ram is becoming the logical choice here.
However concerning graphics cards I am looking more for a med level one, as the GTX970 for example would definitive be outside of my price range. So to put a number on that maybe 150-200$. If someone has a great one for slightly more I would also consider that.

Is this an upgrade of existing hardware or a new PC?

Consider looking at Control Panel->System, click "Windows Experience Index".

I know it's a very rough estimate, but it can give you an indication to where your bottleneck is.

Then upgrading only the part that has way lower score than the rest could be enough.

The hardware I listed is the one I'm using at the moment.
I dont have the windows experience index anymore unfortunately ;( I think they removed it with windows 10?

Ok, hmm, your current specs are already way better than mine. ;-)

It's difficult to tell then.

4GB RAM seems sufficient to me for mid-level games. (Provided you close other application before starting the game)

Shouldn't be really a bottleneck.

Concering GPUs, links that helped me in the past:

http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/ (for comparisons between specific cards)

Thanks for those 2 pages scronch. Really interesting and helpful. But makes me very jealous to see that we pay at least ~50% more per gpu :<
But will narrow my search down and post some cards here later. Maybe someone could tell me if one of them is worth it or if its a waste :D

On that list the only things worth replacing is ram and gfx card. If you want a new cpu you need to get new cpu, mobo and possible even ram so that is the expensive option. What i would do is buy 4 more gigs of ram and if you have anything left over get a gtx 670 or 760 like OMGimbadASS said earlier. At the moment they are cheaper than dirt and should give you a decent performance boost.

4GB of RAM & a GTX 760 if you can afford it, make sure that new memory is compatible with existing

memory in PC

Mhh both mentioned cards seem to be a bit difficult to get hold off here. Do you think the 750ti would make sense?
I thought I could just link the biggest supplier of graphics cards in my area...I intend to buy it there.
Also had my eye on the 750ti/GTX950 and Asus R7360-OC-2GD5.
But the choice is very difficult if you dont have the right knowledge. Or maybe someone tells me its all crap and rather wait another half a year.

I'd go on 4Gb memory stick upgrade and a new GFX card too. Can't talk about nvidias, but if you are short on cash try to find "old gen" second hand ATIs . The new ones are mostly old ones with new names. The HD7970 is the same as the R280X for example.

If you are choosing between 750ti and 950 then go for the 950

If you intend keeping the pc for any length of time then buy the best card you can afford so you don't

have the same trouble in 6 months time

For GPU I would recommend the Nvidia 750Ti. You can pick up the 2GB versions from £95-110 ($139-161) or you can go with the new Gigabyte Windforce 4GB version for £120 ($176)

I have a friend that upgraded a GTX650 to 750Ti before christmas, getting the EVGA FTW 2GB Model and he has no problems playing Tanks, Rust, H1Z1, ARK etc.

Something you didn't mention is what storage you have, if you don't have a SSD I would recommend that, they coming really cheap now.

Also, need to know what size PSU =)

i bought my last gpu on ebay from a german seller ~10%cheaper than on sale anywhere in europe.

If u find a good seller, they may send it to u in sa?

How about a 2nd hand gpu off ebay?

Lots of gadget geeks buy a new card every year+ sell the old one

:)
