M24 Chaffee

Posted Image

Class: Light Tank
Tier: 5
Role: Scouting

The stock version has less speed and bad traverse speed. It is recommended to upgrade the Engines and Suspension first. The Engine and suspension upgrades will make the Chaffee a very fast and maneuvrable tank. With the 2nd engine, the Chaffee reached a speed of 30 km/h in a few seconds and then reaches the tank's top speed after some more time. The 3rd engine allows the Chaffee to reach its top speed very quickly. With the 3rd engine, the Chaffee can climb up the hill of Malinovka with 40 km/h and the hill of Himmelsdorf with 30 km/h (with stock turret and gun). The 75mm gun is capable of damaging the rear armor of heavy tanks such as the IS-3 making the Chaffee a somewhat effective hit and run tank in some situations. The turret upgrade adds 50 hp to the Chaffee. The 76mm gun is even stronger. It can take on medium tanks of tier 6. Be careful that you don't get hit though and don't decide to attack a enemy who has support, as you're a light tank and you have less armor and HP. The M24 Chaffee can circle single unsupported heavy tanks.

The accuarcy on the move of both the guns is great.

Upgradable Modules

Crew Training
  • Repairs, Tracked scout tanks are easy targets. This will help you getting your tracks repaired faster (beside all other modules, such as engine).
  • Camo
  • Firefighting

Consumables
  • Fire extinguisher, to prevent fire from damaging/destroying all your modules.
  • Repair Kit, to repair damaged engine.
  • Health Pack, to revive your driver.

Suggested Equipment
  • Coated Optics, +10% View Range, This is one of the most important equipments for scout tanks.
  • Toolbox, +25% Repair speed, this helps getting your tracks repaired faster.
  • Vertical Stabilizer, +20% Accuracy while moving or rotating the turret, add this to make the accuarcy on the move even better.

The M24 can be researched from the M5 Stuart for around 55k exp, yes, 55.000 exp. The tank costs 537.550 credits.

I'll go with vertical stab for the last equip. Gun is already fairly accurate but stabilizer makes it amassing

I use vents, coated optic and vertical stabilizer and it works great.

Camo should never researched last. You don't need to move all the time to be a good scout.

Camo, Scout tanks are normally always on the move, so camo is picked last.

Camo skill works on the move. I always take it first for lights.

And even if it didn't, it would still be the most important skill for bush-scouting. Which is probably what M24 does best out of the new lights due to the view range.

The Chaffee is intended for bush scouting and long range harrasment shooting, in wich it actually performs very well. Admitted, it is not as fast as the T50-2, but it has a much better gun in every way

For bush scout the camo is probably to bad wiht the second turret (to tall)

But that thing is just bad ass with the last gun... you can kill t8 tanks without any problem and getting Orlik's Medal is no problem at all.

Posted this on the other topic about the Chaffee since someone asked how to do it.
Basically it tells you how you can interchange the models of the first and the ##%#$%!"# second turret.
Just in case someones interested and misses it there.

Not hard at all, here goes:
  • Go to res/vehicles/american/A34_M24_Chaffee/normal/lod0 in your WOT test client directory.
  • Find the file named Turret_01.model and rename it to Turret_02*.model
  • Find the file named Turret_02.model and rename it to Turret_01.model
  • Finnaly rename the file Turret_02*.model to Turret_02.model
  • Start the game.

If all went well, the stock turret now looks like the $#%"% turret, and the upgraded one looks like the stock one
Enjoy :)

Relic - but this is only for You, other will see the big turret.

Is it allowed to put better gun in 1st turret?

Yes mate i know. This is in case YOU don't want to look at the fugly turret. Why would you care if others look at the fugly turret anyway ;)

And no. need the fugly turret mounted for the best gun.

Relic - smaller turret means smaller target. And 1st turret looks also better shaped.

I always go for coated optics, vents and see how a tank performs before deciding a scouts third slot. Crew training is always cammo, repair, fire for me too. Didn't try this in beta, but will probably end up with one at some point. How does it stack against the T-50-2?

At range the accuracy and rof of the gun lets it take the upper hand.
Up close T-50-2 superior speed and maneuverability reign supreme

Turret choice does not affect tank camo values. Of course, if it's sticking out from a bush, you may have a problem. Anyway for instance KV-1 and KV-2 (same base tank for now) have same camo value, so will be same for Chaffee.
