If you will give this tank a buff or prem MM, it would be worth it.

It is worth it if you ask me, this tank gets a lot of bad reputation because how bad it was when released. But it was buffed after that and it's decent now.

I bought one and was pleasantly surprised, I'd play it any day over T-54 mod 1.

When did they buff it, and how?? have not heard anything about that.

Found this

  • STA-2:
    • Crossing capacity of the STA-2 suspension on solid terrain increased by 20%.
    • Crossing capacity of the STA-2 suspension on medium terrain increased by 18%.
    • Crossing capacity of the STA-2 suspension on soft terrain increased by 10%.
    • Aiming time of the 90 mm Rifled Gun for the STA-2 turret decreased from 2.2 to 2.1 s.
    • Dispersion on turret traverse of the 90 mm Rifled Gun decreased by 29%.
  • Being an owner of the STA-2, was quite disappointed at how the STA-2 performed pre 9.9, so i decided to give this turd of a tank another chance. Oh boy the buffs exceeded my expectations.
  •
  • 1: the terrain resistance buff to it made it much mobile then it was.

2: gun handling was improved greatly, before then the STA-2 needed to aim for a very long time before it could effectively get it mark on its targets.

3: it stills suffers a low shell velocity speed, but hey its meant to be used at medium ranges to DPM its opponents(highest DPM of all tier 8 premium medium tanks)

Have this tank and I love it. I can't explain why, because in all rights it should be a slightly shoddier AMX CDC, yet for some reason she just performs perfectly. Sure I have bad games in her, but for some reason it's always a pleasure to drive...

If I didn't already have her, I would buy her again.

I Have the STA-2 myself, because i love my STA-1, and was so disappointed with it. Will be taking it for a test drive today and see how it Works now.

Maybe on good open Maps without corridors and lots of cover so as all the below DOES NOT make this tank a Premium expensive joke

- it needs preferential MM as T10 tanks just laugh loud when they see it then kill it.

is a pure support vehicle that needs to stay in the back and choose their opportunity to strike. (lol really where AND especially in 4 minute 1 sided slaughter battles) Having no armour and good top speed, this tank is incapable of brawling. (dam right a glass tank) However, thanks to its great rate of fire, agility and gun depression values, it can effectively ambush the enemy and harass them relentlessly from a hull-down position (like where on the current maps, Pilsen lol! Kharkov lol Stalingrad lol etc and etc

Edit) just played it on the Test Server 6 decent battles 3 lose battles so 9 in all

1 - manoeuvrability is still 'sluggish' acceleration still poor, 45kpm top speed is slow not fast, turns slow nothing changed

2 - Gun, yes the gun is still the ONLY good part of this premium has nice -10 gun depression and the 185mm penetration is good until it meets Heavies, AP shell velocity is slow

some T9 needs the Gold ammo no surprise, BUT especially any T10 tanks it need the Gold ammo (lots of it) and its expensive!

3 - DPM, 8.45 but it does not feel like it! still below average even in a 'target rich' battle I struggled to get much over 1500 damage done, in a typical WOT brawl fest lucky to get 1000 damage (not great!

4 - Credit silver earner, I averaged between 40k and 60k silver profit this in good games / loser games averaged 15k sometimes nothing at all

5 - Fun! can be if the enemy are err potato players or (lol) the MM actually works and its 2 fair equal teams and nice open maps not City brawling

6 - Tier 10 battles, cannot run ANYWHERE its to slow it dies, Gold ammo ALL game no profit, forced to Brawl (crap brawling maps) it dies fast and its not fun at all

7 - Needs Preferential Match Making - please otherwise BUFF it to make it more Stronk and competitive (45kpm is so cruel! needs 55kpm at least

8 - Best part ~ the Gun easily and only that imo ~ it needs a DPM buff to enhance its Credit earning potential ~ and a Top Speed buff to 50kph+ is badly needed as well

Just play the regular STA-1 it:

-Is free as it's a regular tank, not a premium.

-Has 218mm penetration on the regular AP shells instead of ~180mm *AND* better shell velocity.

-Because it has more penetration it makes more money as it dings less shots and doesn't require premium ammo to be competitive.

-Has pretty much the same gun handling stats (slightly slower aimtime of 0.20s).

-Has a smaller silhouette meaning you get shot less when poking ridge lines.

-Has similar mobility and better hp/t ratio.

-Has better camo values.

Really if there ever was an instance where the regular tank is better than the premium tank it's this one.

When they buff the penetration to 218 this tank will be worth it over the regular STA-1, until then it's not.

If you want to play a good medium tank, you should play tiers 6, 9 and 10. If you want to earn credits fast with relatively little input of real money, you play a tier 8 premium medium.

nope, if you want to print credits as a dedicated medium driver you buy T8 heavy ... xD

because there is no machine better for you at T8 than FCM50T  ...

186 normal pen and 275 premium pen at tier 8... It's obvious that you are expected to only shoot gold with this thing. No thanks.

You do know that "good" is a subjective thing right?

For instance for me good medium tanks are the Comet, STA-1, Type 61, CDC and Obj907. On Tier 6 I find the aimtime too slow in correlation to the speed of the vehicles.

Then again T6-7 light tanks are better than the mediums of their tier in general.

I have had it for a long time, and I kind of like it since it suits my playstyle. However, my impression is that it see Tier X matches quite frequently, and to be honest, that tank really should not be there. If you're lucky you can grab some spotting damage (since its camo rating is okay-ish), or sneak some shots into a scout or some unwary heavy's back ... but that's about it, really. Of course, you can use gold ammo, but that is damn expensive (in fact, the STA-2 is the only premium tank in which I have ever 'managed' to actually lose credits), and besides - strictly personal opinion - I resent using gold.

I think this tank is only ever interesting for players who like tanks that are good hillfighters or for those who desperately want a Japanese Medium crew trainer. Do not buy it if you are looking for a good creditmaker or if you are easily frustrated.

My 5 cents:

+ gun have good depression, stabilization and dpm

+ good reverse speed (pick-a-boo is good option)

+ good camo rating

- no armor

- gold ammo is quite expencive (4400 credits for 1 pcs)

- view range is not great for a tank that must stay on 2nd line

If you take advantage from good sides of Sta-2 you'll be suprised how fun to play it can be.
