Hello everyone,

 

Whenever there are crew XP events or the bonus for first victory of the day is more than x2 or any kind of XP special in general, threads appear on the forums asking how these bonuses work together with each other or with personal reserves and the like. I hope that this guide will clarify all the possible questions with regards to (crew) XP.

 

If you have any questions or remarks, feel free to post them in this thread or pm me. Also if you have received XP for a battle and you do not understand the calculation you can get help here.

 

I would like to take the chance to greatly thank some(gras), _Warris_, (Tsundere)Waffle and UrQuan. They provided awesome and extensive help on both the test and live server and proofread my drafts. A little suggestion Schmidt: On the line "Example: first victory of the day grants x3 and a +100% TankXPPR will grant x2. Their combined bonus is x4 of the baseXP instead of x6 as it would be if they were multiplicative." in the Tank XP tab, i believe it'll be easier to understand if you also add the respective percentages together as well because the addition of the multiplicative modifiers can be a bit confusing (x3 + x2 = ???).

I updated the guide accordingly, including the typo :P Maybe, actually most likely, I did not add the %age figures in all pleaces, but at least at the beginning, so that things should be clearer.

Mentor skill could be analyzed / described better from few more angles:

- The more crewmembers you have the more effect Mentor-skill has in providing extra XP <- pointing that out. Mentor is pretty useless on 2 man crews but its significant on 7 man crews.

- Calculation of thresholds where Mentor skill has paid its XP-price back as providing more XP than it costed for each number of crew. This is needed to evaluate WHEN it is worth taking as first skills to provide ultimately more XP benefits than the skill itself costs.

- Pointing out as taking mentor even as 2nd and up skill is pretty pointless because its developement at that point costs so much XP its gains are really marginal and by the time mentor has "paid itself back" there are no more relevant skills to be reached with it.

 

Mentor is kind of "high end skill" for keeper tanks. It causes your tank to perform initially worser than it could by delaying the getting 6th sense or other worthwhile skills to commander, but because it developes skills faster tank will be "skillmaxed" sooner. If player plans to have 5+ perk crew on tank mentor-skill can save literally months from reaching that status.

@TroubleDove: 

You bring up some good points regarding Mentor. It's a bit of a complicated skill to get tbh & would need a guide all of its own to get it all detailed out. 

I do have one commander with Mentor skill & it pays off in the long run. As pointed out, mentor skill is best trained for tanks with large crews & that can live without some commander skills for a while. On top of it, best pick it for crews that also have access to several premium tanks.

Think I picked it as second or third skill on the KV-4 crew. Imo, Mentor is a good skill to get if you can use the crew in alot of tanks that can access different tiers. The crew sees action in the KV-4, KV-5, IS-2 & the Churchill III. I platoon alot with folks at various tiers, meaning the crew gets alot of action at different tiers.

Mentor is one of those skills you should only get if you plan to play a specific tank/crew for thousands of battles. If you don't think you'll get that much action with a tank/crew, don't go for it.

Thanks for your feedback. I have to make up my mind about that part of the guide as indeed you can probably make another guide out of just the Mentor skill or "usefull" crew leveling/skill picks. But I have some basic maths for you: With each skill, the required crew XP doubles. Meaning that if the first skill requires approx. 210.000 crew XP, the second one does require 420.000 crew XP and so forth.

 

No matter at which point you start Mentor, it will (once at 100%) lead to 10% less crew XP to grind on the next skill. As that next skill does require double the crew XP, it is in fact a 20% pay-off on the crew XP invested on the previous skill (as 10% of 420.000 = 42.000 which is 20% of 210.000). For the skill after that, the 10% mean 40% of the skill used for Mentor. Which is a combined 60% pay-off rate.

 

So you need at least 2,5 skills after the one where you pick Mentor to make it pay-off crew XP wise. And that, simply put, means that you should only use it on crews which you plan to play a lot. But then it can and will save you hundreds of battles to reach the next skill. In other words: it is a very situational skill to use.

 

Edit: if you got the monies you can also be really dirty/filthy and re-train your crew before x2/x3 crew XP events and train it back afterwards. Because the Mentor is multiplicative to all other crew XP bonusses, the boost will be more significant then (especially if you add personal reserves).
