What do you know about this tank? It is announced in development plan, I do not find it in tech tree of USSR, so it is probably added to it and will become premmium. So I ask player with higher knowledge, what do you know about and could you prove some screenshoots ;)?

This I found from wikipedia: "SU-85-I - First SU-85 prototype, rejected for space concerns. Armed with 85 mm S-18 gun."

The tech tree has last been updated in april so it is a bit outdated. Anyways, after searching forums and overlord's blog I found no info about SU-85 (I), so I wonder whether it is just a typo and they meant to write SU-76(I) which a premium SPG.

Yes, but SU-85(I) was different vehicle. It was an modification of SU-76(I) with 85mm gun.

Looks pretty slick and would be a welcomed addition to my garage, but how will players be able to obtain this awe-inspiring peice of communist ingenuity? All I read was "available within special World of Tanks events." Will this be sold for gold or will it be more like the IGN M3?

Ah much as I suspected. I knew the (I) meant it was a captured tank conversion, like the SU76(I) which was a russian knockoff of a stug 3.  I figured it'd either be one of them upgunned to 85mm or something based on a pz4 and looks like it's the former.
Must be pretty damn cramped inside with an 85mm in a PZ3 hull...

Actually according to drawings 85mm gun on SU-85(I) due the more forward mounting took less internal space then 76mm on SU-76(I).

the ammo's gonna take up a lot more space though, unless they seriously cut down on the amount of rounds carried.

58 rounds vs 104 or 106 on SU-76(I). One of fuel tanks was also removed IIRC.

I thought about adding some stats for SU-85(I) now that public test server is online:

Cost: 1250 Gold
Crew: 5 (Commander, Gunner, Driver, Radioman,  Loader)

Rest of the relevant info can be seen on the picture below:

Spoiler

The top enemy tank you can encounter seems to be tier 8 tanks. The tier 8 tanks seem to be largely unaffected by your gun (HE or AP).

... i've tried this cute little td on the test server. The gun is very potent for it's tier and it was fun driving it.
I doubt that the camo rating will be as good aus the other tier 5 tds.
I hope that it wont be too hard to get it on the real servers (fingers crossed)

Germans managed to fit a 150mm gun on that hull, with a redesigned casemate of course.

You just pay for it? I have listed its cost - 1250 Gold. So there is no need to grind it. Just buy it via store and it's yours.

Regarding your opinion about the gun on SU-85(I):

I don't know... It is adequate when the top enemy tank is tier 6 (or 7 if there is not too many tier 6 opponents). However both Stug and SU-85 with their top guns are far more deadly when being top dogs and more capable when being on the bottom.

With current tier spread I don't think it worth purchasing. Other tier 5 TDs are relatively quick to grind and more profitable I think.

Su-85(I) is just a love-hate tank.

And to put in basic: It got the perfect combination of the Stug and Su-85 put you dont get the most loved things of those  <_<

Ive been inside a museum StuG III and, yes it was cramped inside! With ammo, personal firearms and so on I can't imagine how it was to acually fight in one of these Panzerjäger. I've also been inside a T34/85 turret and it is more cramped inside than you first think - again, three crew plus ammo, personal firearms and not much allaround view from within the tank would make me go nuts.

To stick with the subject, I've played a few trial battles with the 85 mm gun fitted to my SU-85, instead of the usual 107 mm gun, and I found it equally good, when you think of the damage combined with the rate of fire. And if it wasn't for the price of 1.250 gold, I'd go for the SU-85i as well, but it is simply too expensive.

With the StuG III finally getting the 80 mm frontal armour (and finally the Seitenschürzen?), I might as well go for that Panzerjäger instead of the SU-85i.

Was going to say, looks like a StuG III re-skin.
