Could someone suggest some titles of PC tank games please,
as an alternative to online World of Tanks. Maybe for when you cant get internet access, or for whatever reason.

I like the look of world of tanks, so something similar. Ive tried the demo of ARMA, and its too much like an Xbox type game(too much button pressing). Also t34 v tiger looks far too technical.

So anything else, fairly arcady?

this is the first time Ive ever played an online game.

Im used to playing John Tillers campaign series, Close Combat, Total War, Field of Glory, and BBC Battle Academy.

many thanks

Panzer Elite: Fields of Glory and Panzer Elite: Dunes Of War, very good tank arcade action.
T72 Balkans On Fire, but this game is more simulation than arcade.
Panzer Front, this game is for the PS 1 but there is a PC emulator. The game is old but very good as regards action and story.

Hey There

You could also try Steel Fury ( Kharkhov 1942) ... Good balance between Sim and arcade, plus plenty of mods for it....

Codename: Panzers (Phase 1 and 2) is better. Although neither are first/third person if you're specifically after that.

Men of War is also excellent if you're into strategy games - go for the first one rather than Red Tide to begin with. Perhaps Hearts of Iron too if you like the total-war style campaign map (HoI does that much better, but lacks the 3d battles).

I dont agree Codename: Panzers are good or even better i played phase 1 and only thing 1 liked (but not for long)were high detail graphics, but generaly game sucks bad, its not realistic at all, tanks have so much HP that it takes 6 min to kill each other + all the dings and there are really lot of dings.IMO best RTS (i know its not with the topic) is Blitzkrieg 1 not 2 it does not have a great graphics but is a great tactical + simulation game and it has a nice special efects for a 2d game(2D terrain + 3D models) i will post video below.

EDIT:also in this game T34 actualy means something in the game.

Of the above mentioned i enjoyed Codename Panzer the most but like someone else mentioned i also recommend Hearts of Iron 2 which is an awesome ww2 grand strategy game tough tanks are only played at a stategic level.

If you want realism at its best give Steel Beasts Pro PE a try, pretty expensive at about 120 Euros, but for me worth every Cent.

thanks for all the enthusiastic and comprehensive answers.
Ive tried the demo of panzer action, and it seems ok, so Ive ordered the gold version for £5, includes the main game and dunes of war.

Ive also downloaded the demo of Men of War.

thanks again.

Go back about 20 Years and you will find M1 Tank Platoon 2.....
Its a DOS Game, and supports Voodoo 1 Cards
But in my Opinion the best mix of Arcade and Simulation.

The mission in the demo is a fairly laid back one, I was undecided whether or not to get it on the basis of that but I'm glad I did as the full game has some much more demanding (and exciting) missions as well as the more relaxed sneaky/single squad ones like the demo's.

* of War series all the way. Great infantry and armored combat. RTS excellency ;) The series are also known for its amazing voice work

Soldiers Heroes of WW2
Still my favorite one, but guess it's the nostalgia factor, it's where the brilliant series started after all. Great SinglePlayer missions, and a German campaign fully dedicated to Wittmann.

Faces of War
They kinda went herp a derp with the next one, mechanics where kinda weird and left some players puzzled as to what had happened to their beloved game. Still a good game. Fun missions. UI was massively improved on this one.

Men of War
A step back to the roots, but this is where the series really started to gather recognition. Again with some great SinglePlayer missions. Multiplayer also got a massive improvement. Improvement in battle mechanics over FOW that pleased the fans.

Men of War: Red Tide
More of a Stand alone add:on then anything else. Adds some more missions with countries that were somewhat overlooked.

Men of War: Assault Squad
This time we see a game heavily geared towards Multiplayer, but one can still play skirmish style Singleplayer missions. Some UI and mechanics improvements.

Men of War: Vietnam
New installment of the series. Change of scenery, goodbye WW2, hello Vietnam War.
Not much as changed from MOW:AS visually, but why mess with what's already great. Back comes the great Single player missions of SHOWW2 and MOW

ps: Sorry for ramming my potato in, but i love this series  :Smile_honoring:
